Cape Town stepping forward 📣.

We’re proud to share that Conrad Janse van Rensburg has been appointed Associate Director at TwoFiveFive, based in our Cape Town office ⛰️ 🌊.

This has been building for a while. As the studio continues to grow and our projects expand in scale and complexity, Conrad’s role has naturally grown with it 👏.

He’ll now be working more closely with our founding directors, Andre Krige and Theo Kruger, contributing to both project direction and the broader trajectory of the practice💻 👷🏼‍♂️.

Conrad brings a level of clarity and focus that anchors the work. Measured, thorough, and consistent. The kind of presence that strengthens a team without needing to announce itself 🙌.

A well-earned step 🤝.

Plenty ahead.

👏👏👏

Big news (and for good reason) 🙌🙌

We’re very happy to share that Stephan Lategan has been made an Associate Director at TwoFiveFive, operating out of our Johannesburg office🏙️.

This one has been in the works for some time. Between a growing team and a strong pipeline of projects, it felt like the right moment to share it now🤝.

In this role, Stephan will be working more closely alongside our founding directors, Andre Krige and Theo Kruger, helping to guide projects and the continued growth of the studio ✍️ .

Stephan has been a steady force in the studio. Thoughtful, reliable, and deeply invested in the work. The kind of person who quietly raises the bar and keeps things moving when it matters most👏.

This feels like a natural step, and a well-earned one 🌟 .

More to come from him (and from us😉).

It’s often what you don’t see that matters most 👀.

A slightly unusual post for us, but we thought this part of the process might be interesting to share. There’s a lot more to construction than what you see above the soil.

For the past month, the Maranello site has been anything but quiet. Our piling contractor, Franki, has driven 137 piles into the foreshore ground, setting up what will eventually carry the building above.

We’re using DCIS (Driven Cast In Situ) piles.

A concrete “stopper” is driven deep into the ground with a free-fall hammer, displacing the soil rather than removing it. This creates a dense, compact base. Concrete is then poured, the rebar cage is placed, and the sleeve is withdrawn as the pile is formed in situ.

No digging out. No loose ground. Just displacement and compression doing the work.

Once cured, these 137 piles will take the load of the pile caps and columns, the structure that will define Maranello.

A lot of effort, a lot of noise, for something you’ll never actually see.

Project reveal pending… but this detail deserved a moment.
Executed by Chris for 255 Architects 💡.

What started as a simple idea became a carefully crafted detail. The vision was to create spherical lights that feel softly “pressed” into the concrete façade, achieving a seamless recessed effect 👌🏼.

To realise this, halved 160mm PVC ball light shells were fixed to the formwork prior to casting, with conduits precisely centred. Once the concrete cured, the moulds were removed and the recesses meticulously ground and sanded to achieve a smooth, refined finish.

Sourcing the right fitting within budget proved challenging, but with the help of Lights by Linea, we secured a 100mm ball light that fit perfectly within the custom recess.

Installation required a bespoke solution. A custom galvanised standoff plate was designed and fixed within the recess, allowing the light to be securely mounted and sealed with a grey polyurethane finish for durability.

This detail took a lot to execute so well. Well done to Chris, James and the entire team involved 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

🤫😉.

Tada 🙌🏼

The pool at Maranello is an unexpected one 😉.

We pulled it straight into the facade, so it becomes part of the architecture instead of hiding it away. Something a bit different. What do you think?
