The Great Hall is one of three buildings forming the first development of the new west campus at the University of Mpumalanga. The precinct is nestled in an existing citrus orchard. The project brief consists of a central 1200 seater auditorium, 2 large external event spaces and a grand lobby space that doubles as an exam venue. Flanked on either side of the auditorium are two mirrored annex blocks containing academic support and office facilities. We are excited to share some of the progress images one and a half years into the construction program, with key spaces taking shape.

ROELOF S UYTENBOGAARDT UDISA MEMORIAL LECTURE
The Roelof S Uytenbogaardt UDISA Memorial Lecture (RSUUML) was initiated by UDISA to honour the extraordinary contribution made by Roelof S Uytenbogaardt in the establishing and promotion of Urban Design in South Africa, as teacher, mentor, urbanist, and practitioner.

The RSUUML is also a platform to celebrate the career of a UDISA member with an outstanding contribution to the field of urban design.

Previous recipients of the UDISA RSUUML award have been:
• Julian Cooke – 2015
• Katie Ewing – 2016
• Erky Wood – 2017
• Piet Louw and Dave Dewar (in association) – 2018
• Monica Sack – 2019
• Lucien le Grange 2021
• Martin Kruger 2022

Ludwig Hansen is the 8th recipient of the award and has delivered the memorial lecture at the University of Pretoria Hatfield Campus, in February. The Exhibition that accompanied the Memorial Lecture will be on display at Cape Institute for Architecture Exhibition Venue from 4 July -21 July 2024.
