It's a little rustic (I may have run out of butter for the icing so had only half). A vanilla birthday cake made from scratch. With home grown flower decorations 🀩

This is one to try!

Cake is so so good

Tanya Malan ran a community Barter recently and I sent in some little home apothecary kits. This is everything I got in return and I am so so happy.

As they say, to the victory goes the spoils and spoiled I have been.

I have always struggled sage but for some reason, I found the perfect spot for this one and it has taken off.

Sage is delicious for cooking but it has some pretty epic medicinal values too.

I use it for dental health. Sage tincture is great on tender gums or as a quick herbal mouth wash. Its a great antibacterial and anti inflammatory.

So popping some fresh chopped leaves in boiled water makes a great herbal tea or alcohol-free mouth wash or adding to vodka for tincture for something with more kick.

My Citronella plant surprised me with a little baby today.

I started clearing my pots of dying summer crops, weeds and doing a general wind down for winter when I noticed this little baby citronella.

I am deeply curious about it because has it popped up from seed? Is it coming from the root? Do I wait a little longer to pot it up? Will it survive the winter?

I have absolutely no idea. But I am now a citronella granny and I couldn't be prouder 🀣

My entire garden has run away from me. I didnt realise how long its been since I actually looked around.

All my perennial plants are huge. I may spam you with them this weekend.

Anyhow, I am off to read more about Citronella plants because I am clueless πŸ™ˆ

We had a slight disaster recently.

We went to the Kruger and were away from home for 6 days... my beloved accidentally switched the fridge plug off.

I can only be grateful that we were not in a heatwave like in the Cape otherwise it would have been a harrowing experience. Thankfully the fridge was mostly empty so the losses were not horrific but I did lose my giant pickled onion jar.

I just couldn't trust that the contents were still safe as it was open.

So in a 10 minute gap, I quickly threw together a new batch of pickled onions. Red this time as thats what we had on hand.

In a few days time, I can enjoy my pickles again. I love adding them to salads, wraps and all our meaty dishes.

1 Cup vinegar to 1 cup water with 4 medium onions fills a 1L jar without any gaps or overflow.

This time I added peppercorns, caraway seeds, black mustard seeds and a Sila-top chilli for some spice.

Picked these Sugar Rush Stripey chillies last week before we set out for a extra long weekend in the Kruger.

They have heat! More pretty than tasty though. Which surprised me. I thought for sure they would be fruity and tropical, which I have grown to love in yellow and orange chillies. But they are just hot.

My beloved enjoyed them, so that is a bonus as he usually only wants litte red firecracker chillies which totally ruins my whimsy of growing pretty veg.

I am going to try these again in our home setting, and see if I feel differently.

But if not, still here for thr aesthetics 🀣

Hey garden friends,

I made a recipe card for my chamomile latte. I would love your feedback on it. You can find it via the link in my bio.

I am wanting to share more of the indepth knowledge behind the things I try here on Instagram in a fun way.

The card is free, downloadable and hopefully helpful.

Very open to pointers 🫢🏻
