Along with it's pretty autumn days and gentle sunshine; its bright surprises of flowers blooming in the garden; its cool evenings and crisp mornings; April has brought a sense of absorption. This past weekend we went camping. This is how it went. I bought a bunch of supplies on Friday. And by supplies I mean food. It wasn't enough food, but it never is when you're outnumbered by boys. Saturday morning we (the parents) were rudely awoken by an enthusiastic mob outside our bedroom window. And by mob, I mean a local rugby club that thought it would be prudent to jog through the sleepy suburban streets of our ultra subdued neighborhood, singing and chanting like a it was a military drill....

Finally, this year is starting to feel like it's getting off its feet. Since these posts are self-centric, I am speaking for myself when I say that January did not feel like a new beginning. More like a very tired, sluggish and overwrought ending. So when someone pointed out that yesterday was the mark of a new lunar year, and a dragon year no less, according to the Chinese zodiac, I was like, "Hell, yeah - now that makes a whole lot more sense!"...

There's a big binder that I store in my kitchen cupboard. On it's spine is a neon orange sticker that a friend printed for me when I got married almost 20 years ago.
