Vivo Kaj Lumo Let’s celebrate life with art, plants and light. Our artworks are available for purchase and/or rentals. We’d love to hear from you! Vivo Kaj Lumo!

We are a Cape Town based start-up, found in 2019, that has been developing our own functional art and décor as a means to introduce plants into urban spaces. We believe the connection with nature is an answer to many of the social and environmental challenges we face today and we hope to grow a culture around appreciation and viable growing of plants, especially in indoor spaces. The question is w

hether we can restore harmony and balance, and we intend to leave lush green footprints all over the city, along our journey to find out. We strive to make our end products using only materials that are sustainable and good for the environment, with our own hands and thought up with our own minds. We are happy to work with architects and interior designers to do commissions. Let’s celebrate Life with Art, Plants & Light!

We want to say thanks to .ct who let us light up their reception with the flower artwork we made as an initial prototype for .

It turned out to fit in quite well and so they decided to make it a permanent feature / selfie-wall as it has been attracting lots of attention.

Their investment allows and inspired us to start a new flower & light sculpture. It's looking really good so far. Expect to see pictures on our page when it'll be done by early May. :)

The framework of this flower is made from recycled plastic which turned out to be too flexible for the big flowers we have in mind for The Mini Giant Flower Forest. We realized it won't hold against the wind, but liked the progress and decided to continue the project, but just make it an indoor piece instead. The petals have been shaped with strips of translucent paper. We cut, melted, and sculpted the inner piece one bit at a time. It was all done by hand and took about 3 months to complete.

This could not have been done without the talent and skill contributed to the project.

We create art works of all types and sizes.

Below are some table centerpieces soon to be seen at . They'll have fresh mint growing in self-watering containers, that we designed and fabricated, on their tables at the restaurant in Kloof Street.

In the back on the right we have a taller light made from wood that we salvaged from a fallen tree. Also to be seen at The Conscious Kitchen.

And in the back on the left we are experimenting with our own vertical wall art pieces which we fabricated from partially reclaimed wood and recycled cooldrink bottles.

We strive to have more plants grow in indoor spaces and bring life to the urban.

We are proud to showcase our last artwork for 2021.👏

It’s a new playground for a happy Granadilla to take over in the years to come.🌿

We started this project by drawing a 3d representation of what we visioned the outcome to look like. The configuration was inspired by biophilic principles to match tree canopies seen in forests. Having an accurate 3d model at hand helped us to tweak the design to optimize the use of material, and also to simplify the fabrication and installation process.

The whole process took about two weeks to complete from inception to final touch.

The wood has been carved and flame sculpted to not only give it a really sleek unique appearance but also to make it durable in harsh elements.

We’ll send some updated pics someday in future when the Granadilla has had time to expand its limbs and finish off the vision we had on day 1.📸

A Constellation of Gems

Inspired by the sleek beauty of perfectly cut crystals such as rubies and diamonds, we started the creation of this piece thinking how perfectly cut waste can also look sleek and beautiful.💭💎♦️

The lights built in this installation were mostly made from reclaimed materials.♻️✔️

We suspended the four luminaires in a coordinated fashion to represent a cluster of gems, almost like the constellations of gems we see when we look up at the night sky.⭐🌟✨🌠

This installation holds room for 4 wig-based self-watering cones, using LECA as a growing medium so that you won’t have to water plants too often.

As with all our works, The Constellation of Gems is built with hands that want to serve the planet, using machines powered by the sun and with strong intentions to beautify our cities.🌞⚙️👩‍🔧🔥

Please feel free to send us a DM if you are interested to have this installation or a modified variant of it on your walls.📞🤙✒️💌

New week, new reveal, Happy Monday!!!

We name them Community meetups. Just because humans are not supposed to gather since the age of social distancing doesn't mean plants cannot.

The Community Meetup is a place where we bring plants together to talk to each other and discuss important matters among themselves.

These fire-sculpted stands are partially built from wood that doesn’t necessarily meet industry standards, and hence often end up at the dump. We don’t like the idea of adding to the burden consumerism puts onto nature, this initiative to create plant stands is a way we feel we can make a difference.

Each stand is carved to distinction and burned individually, so they all have unique features. We then polish them with our hands using our own formula of natural oils to give them a shiny, yet natural finish.

The Community Meetup contains room for 8 wig-based self-watering cones, using LECA as a growing medium so that you won’t have to water plants too often.

They are modular, meaning you can adding a couple of them next to each other to cover an entire wall with plants. They are very effective room dividers too.

As with all our works, this stand is built with hands that want to serve the planet, using machines powered by the sun and with intentions to beautify our cities.

We make them one at a time, to order, so please allow 2-5 workdays for us to build after confirming your payment.

Last Reveal of the week!

We call them Plant Shrines

"Shrine ~ A place regarded as holy because of its associations with a divinity or sacred person or relic, marked by a building or other construction"

Without going too deep with this, we'd like to point out that plants are more than just a cluster of green matter. Here's a fun factual video clip to watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm6zfHzvqX4

We'd like to believe plants draw inspiration from some of the animals and beings they observe in nature. What does an eagle flying overhead look like to a plant growing on one spot, for its entire existence?

Based on this inspiration we made some decorative lightboxes. It took a while to come up with the various designs. We hope you like them.
