Now is a great time to assess your garden. Summer flowering shrubs can be pruned, (or moved if they're in the wrong spot) Mulching with bark, wood chips or even compost will help with water retention, and add nutrients to soil as it breaks down. Bare areas in the garden can be identified and prepared for Spring. Also a great time to plant trees - it gives the roots time to settle and ready for Spring growth.
