Want more colour from your succulents? Look closely 👉 here is a lesson about succulents ☀️🔴🟢

Look at the pictures quickly and read this. Notice how the top part of the plant is more red than the bottom. MORE SUN, MORE COLOUR 🤌🤌

The top part of this plant is getting the sun. The bottom is in the shade. These pictures literally capture this lesson in one picture 😌

If it is in the shade most of the day, it won’t get as much colour as it would have as if were in the sun 🙌

If you want more colour from your succulents, just give them more sun 😌 if your succulents are inside or a place where they are shady, it’ll be an interesting experiment for you to move it to a more sunny spot and see what happens 😇

Thats how I am able to take these pictures and show you ☺️ this is a variegated plant. It’s in my swan necks hanging in full sun and it’s gotten so much colour compared to the usual place variegated succulents should grow. Variegated plants usually like cool areas. This one gets a red edge when it’s in the sun 😌

Succulent rule: “the SMALLER the pot, the SMALLER the plant” 👇👇

This green plant is called the taco plant. It’ll stay this small for a very long time because there isn’t much soil for it to use to get bigger 🌱 🪴

Moss also prevent succulents from growing large in pots 😌

The result is that this plant will stress and stay reasonably small. For this taco, it’ll just grow super slowly and stay small 😇 As for the pink Echeverias on either side however, they turn even more pink when they become pot bound and stress and their leaves get nice and stubby and sharp 😋 and they stay small of course 😂

Hence the rule, the smaller the pot, the smaller the plant 🤌🤌 the opposite is also true 👉 the BIGGER the pot, the BIGGER the plant 🫠🤣

Go look at your plants and notice which have become pot bound bonsais and show me in the comments!! 😍🤩👇

The people are the best part about the markets. East London and PE at Filthys - THANK YOU 🙏

East London 👉 it was great to brave the rain and weather with you to share our amazing love for succulents 😇😌 catching up with you and your plants brings me much joy 👏 thank you.

Filthys, the Farmers market is the only stall I do because it capsules what you can expect at the Open day. Literally bringing the farm to town 🙌 making the display with lucern bales and two pitch forks to display the hanging plants was so fun to design. A real ‘n boer maak ‘n plan situation 🤣🤣 the stall space was so compact it made for some awesome close encounters 🤌🤌 GREAT VIBES 🙏

Oh and thank you for you and everyone who also got pre orders and for trusting me to deliver your paid for plants in a world where scams are all over 🙌🙌

Ps there is no Open day in July. I’m at the Grahamstown art fest. I know people say its not what it used to be but nothing is what it used to be 😆 the vibe is actually great. You just need one day anyway and the festival is still huge and beats any festival besides wildfees. So the next open day will be 1 August.

This plant is called the Sunburst 😍

It’s head size gets quite large - like more than 30cm 👀 and it’s stem nice and long too 👌

It’s a great rare succulent to have in your garden due to it’s crazy colours as well as the shear size thereof. Warning though, it doesn’t make too many babies so don’t expect a lot of babies from it 😇 thats why it’s rare!

They’re also winter growers so they should be looking real beautiful this time of the year 🤌🤌

These strings look amazing when the winter sun shines through their leaves 😍😍😍

They are called the sting of bananas 🍌 and they have a little window in their green leaf that is translucent 🤌🤌 this allows the sun to SHINE through that slit to make such beautiful bright green leaves 😮‍💨☺️ wow!

Then I saw a string of watermelons 🍉 doing the same thing 😍 they’re both from the Senecio family - The same family of the string of pearls 🙌 small world!!

This slit allows it to grow in low light conditions like indoors as well as outdoors 🙌 🏡

These are called Echeveria 👇 pronounced “ek-kev-veria”. Echeveria. 🌼

They’re the classic succulent. They have little baby thorns on their leaf tips and their tips often go red when they’re in the sun 😍

They are the reason they call succulents “Rock roses” 🤌🤌

Also pronounced “Etche-veria” by others 🤣🤣 with an emphasis on the “ch” “ch”.

Go look at your succulents and see how many Echeverias you spot 😋

Sun sun beautiful sun.
It was awesome this morning .
Thanks to all that came out to the open day. Sorry about the wet and sloshy grass at the far end but for the rest it was dry.
We hope the new layout suited everyone with the new sales areas being more accessible and having a greater variety of plants to choose from.
See you all at the next one only in August as we will be at the National Arts Festival in July.
