Some houses stay with you long after they are complete. They live on in memory, not only for their spaces and details, but for the way they shaped you while you were designing them.

The House of Earth and Sky reminded me why I love this profession. It was a process of trust, patience, and moving with the rhythms of nature.

Light, colour, texture, water. A sequence of spaces that hold stillness and movement in equal measure. Three masses, three courtyards, each with its own mood and a body of water. Thresholds that invite you to pause, to notice, to breathe.

On the blog, I share my design journal for this project — pages where these ideas first took shape in pencil and colour. The sketches explore the palette, the textures, and the way light would guide you through its spaces.

A good client is the most important ingredient for a good project. Her words will stay with me:
“It feels as if you climbed into my head and put on paper that which I never could put into words — a huge thank you!”

The pergola is nearing completion - Part 1

The pergola is nearing completion, and the finer details are beginning to settle into place. Each surface has been thoughtfully considered, each plane designed with its own pattern, texture, and scale. Together, these layers bring warmth, depth, and colour to the space.

We’ve chosen Corobrik’s burgundy piazza pavers in a classic herringbone pattern to anchor the ground. Their rich red tone is beautifully balanced by the emerald green Kalki tiles, which will be used in the pool and as a splash-back. The tiles’ deep, glazed surface will catch the light and reflect tones from the surrounding foliage, gently pulling the garden into the architecture. Overhead, the Lunawood ceiling has been laid in a square-on-square hatch pattern, filtering sunlight throughout the day and casting soft, shifting shadows that animate the space with light.

A house can be seen a a poem manifest in space, each wall a line break, each threshold a pause to breathe. Light becomes language. Silence and structure together compose a dwelling that can be read, felt, and lived.

The House of Earth and Sky is a testament to what happens when architecture holds more than function.

Designed for a cultured and creative lawyer, her teenage son, and their Great Dane, the brief was simple:
“Everything must be designed, even if it is designed to be empty.”

On a quiet, narrow site behind a suburban church, we imagined a layered home of intimacy and openness. Two bedrooms. Two studios. Sunlight, thresholds, ritual. A place for silence and saturated colour.
A house not only to exist in, but to dwell in, fully.

The steelwork is up and complete, which always feels like a turning point on site. Painting is next, and then we move on to one of the details we are most excited about – a .official ceiling feature that’ll bring warmth and texture to the space. The Piazza pavers are arriving today too, and I can’t wait to see how they settle into the raised patio.

This pergola is a small extension to the house, but it’s full of detail designed to help the family spend more time outside, gather around the braai, overlook the pool, and enjoy the garden in a new way.

Grateful to be working with the incredible team from Grid Construction. It is such a pleasure to have people on site who care about the process as much as the outcome.

Steel is going up.

This pergola marks the beginning of a small but meaningful extension to a family home. It is an invitation to spend more time in the garden, around the built-in braai, overlooking the pool, and catching the last light of the day.

The structure creates a raised platform designed to frame everyday rituals and summer evenings.

We’re on site!

Our pergola project for a private residence has officially broken ground. It’s a deceptively simple structure—full of detail, nuance, and craftsmanship.

Site always brings surprises (it will rain the day concrete is poured - in July!), which is why having your architect involved in Stage 5 & 6—construction and close-out—makes all the difference.
