The Mother Who Couldn’t Let Go
When Daniel suggested they visit his mother, Yvonne, he had no reason to expect trouble.
“She’ll be happy to meet you,” he said with a smile.
Vicky returned the smile nervously. “I hope so. I just want to make a good impression.”
The first visit started calmly enough, but tension quickly grew. Yvonne hugged Daniel warmly but barely glanced at Vicky. Every question was directed at her son. Every answer to Vicky was short, cold, and dismissive. By the time they left, Daniel felt a pang of confusion.
He had no idea his mother could feel such hostility.
They tried again. And again. Birthdays, Sundays, family gatherings. Each time, Vicky stayed polite, patient, and kind. Each time, Yvonne’s disapproval only deepened.
In her mind, Vicky was the threat, the outsider the woman who “claimed” her son.
As the wedding approached, Yvonne’s resentment turned into obsession.
A week before the wedding, Vicky received a call from Yvonne. Alone, Vicky went to her mother-in-law’s house. Yvonne wasted no time. She placed an envelope of money on the table.
Take this,” Yvonne said. “Leave Daniel. Start over somewhere else.”
Vicky stared. Then she pushed it away.
“I love your son,” she said softly. “And he loves me. I’m not leaving him for money.”
Yvonne’s control shattered. That night, she slipped into Daniel’s room while he slept. She carried poison and unwavering conviction
I’m saving you from Vicky,” she whispered. “One day, you’ll understand.”
Daniel never woke up.
The wedding never happened. The suit was never worn. The future was erased.
Then came the call Vicky would never forget. Yvonne’s voice, calm and cold:
“There will be no wedding. I have stopped it. He is mine.”
And the truth was undeniable:
Yvonne didn’t lose her son to love.
She destroyed him because she couldn’t control him.
The end
