Long drives can be tricky, and we know South Africans are concerned about highway risks. Safeguard Asset Protection Service and Wezindlela Group got together to break down the hidden dangers on the road, from flat tyres to fake police, and exactly what to do when danger pops up.

Pitstops & Breakdowns:
- Only stop at busy, well-lit stations. Lock your car immediately.
- Take kids to the bathroom with you; don’t leave them in the car.
- Flat Tyres or Road Hazards: Drive slowly to a safe area, even if it damages the rim. Life is more valuable than your wheel.
- Don’t stop for strangers or broken-down vehicles on isolated roads; report them, but keep moving.

Hijacking Awareness:
- Tap-Tap Trap: If a car lightly bumps you in a quiet area, do not get out. Signal them to follow you to a police station. This is a known hijacking setup.
- Blue Light Gangs: If unmarked cars with blue lights try to pull you over, slow down, turn on hazards, and drive to the nearest police station. Legitimate police will follow you.

A joint operation led to the successful disruption of a kidnapping syndicate operating in Soshanguve.

Acting on credible intelligence, a multiple unit team consisting of SAPS, Wezindlela and multiple private security partners was deployed across the area. A vehicle linked to the suspects was identified, and a coordinated takedown followed.

Several suspects, who had reportedly been targeting victims and forcing them to withdraw cash while being held against their will, were detained on scene, with further arrests made as the investigation unfolded.

The operation not only led to the end of this syndicate but also the safe release of
victims connected to the case in Mpumalanga. This outcome reflects what it looks like when shared intelligence, aligned teams, and action taken at just the right time, all come together.

From a vehicle to cover in seconds.

In the face of an imminent threat, hesitation can cost lives. Our tactical training drills emphasise the disciplined transition from patrol vehicle to secure cover.

The sequence is drilled into our agents until it’s instinct:
1. Rapid but controlled exit from the vehicle.
2. Immediate threat assessment and radio comms.
3. Low-profile movement from cover to cover.
4. Establishing defensible positions without losing situational awareness.
5. Coordinated advance toward the threat with support units.

The ultimate goal is obviously maximum survivability and minimum exposure: orderly, coordinated engagement that keeps officers and civilians safe.
