We would like to thank the SAPS team who contacted the Bloemfontein SPCA regarding a dog that was hit by a car. The SAPS was busy on call when they heard a sound and one of the officers ran outside and found the dog on the ground still alive.

The officer explained that they didn’t know who hit the dog with the car but only tried to help it. When they tried to pick up the dog wanted to bite them. We explained to the SAPS that it was only out of fear and pain. We were able to assist the dog and took him to the veterinarian.

The injuries were severe, and the dog was humanly euthanized to end the pain and suffering. We as the public please drive careful and when an accident happens with an animal that needs help, please contact us as we are 24hours 7 days a week available to assist and help any animal.

Please don't abandon your pet. If you are
unable to keep your pet, irrespective the kind of animal, please contact us for assistance. We will not judge you and we will not ask questions. We have a legal obligation to take in all animals an may not refuse admission to ANY animal. It is not a rule or policy, it is the law.

Also take note that abandoning an animal is a contravention of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962 and a criminal offence. But most importantly it is utterly unfair to the animal that has been loyal to you and loved you all his or her life.
