𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐅𝐁. 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲.

30 years… it’s hard to believe.

When we look back, MFB Walling started long before the name itself existed.

Dad was just a young teenager when he first entered the precast walling industry. Over the years, he learnt the trade, worked hard, gained experience and built up the knowledge that would eventually give him the confidence to start something of his own.

In 1996, Dad and Mom took that leap and MFB Walling was born.

A few years later, I joined them at just 19 years old, and my brother William came on board when he was only 17. Looking back now, it’s crazy to think how young we both were and how much of our lives have been shaped by this business.

We didn’t just work here – we grew up here.

We’ve seen the early days, the long hours, the good times, the difficult times and everything in between. We’ve watched our parents put so much of themselves into building MFB Walling, and we’ve learnt more from them than we could ever put into words.

In 2022, William and I took over the business. It was a big step for us, but one that meant so much. We weren’t starting from scratch, we were carrying forward something our parents had spent years building.

Our goal now is simple: keep moving forward, keep doing things properly and continue giving our customers quality precast walling at a price they can afford.

We want to grow the business, reach more people and build a name that customers know they can trust, not only for the quality of our work, but for the service and people behind it.

When you’ve been part of something for this long, it becomes so much more than a business. It’s the memories. It’s the lessons. It’s the people. It’s the family.

And most importantly, it’s something our parents started that we now have the privilege of carrying into the future.

We are so thankful to every customer who has supported us, every staff member who has worked alongside us, every supplier who has stood by us, and all our friends and family who have encouraged us along the way.

30 years of MFB Walling. 30 years of hard work, family, memories and a whole lot of learning.

We’re proud of how far we’ve come, incredibly grateful for everyone who has been part of the journey, and excited to see what the next chapter brings.

Here’s to 30 years – and to many more still to come. 🥂❤️

A Special Thank You to Rodney Helena ❤️

As we celebrate 30 years of MFB Walling, we want to give a very special shout-out to Rodney.

He joined MFB Walling a few years after Mike started the company and has been part of our journey ever since — through the highs, the lows, the challenges and the successes.

For many years, he has stood alongside Mike, helping build MFB Walling into what it is today. When William and I took over the family business in 2022, Rodney continued that journey with us, offering his support, experience and knowledge as we stepped into the next chapter of MFB Walling.

That kind of loyalty, commitment and dedication over so many years is something we truly value and deeply appreciate.

𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝑭𝑩 𝑾𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈

At the age of 37, Mike made the brave decision to break away from the family business and start a company of his own. In 1996, MFB Walling was born — but the foundations of his journey in the precast walling industry had been laid many years before.

From the time he was a little boy, Mike was surrounded by the family business. After school, he would often come home carrying pieces of stone and brick that he had picked up along the way, taking them to his father’s factory to help with the manufacturing of slabs and posts.

At only 16 years old, Mike officially began working in the family business. He started right at the bottom and worked his way up, learning every aspect of the industry from the ground up. He installed precast walling, worked on the trucks, and learned the value of hard work, quality workmanship and dedication.

When Mike started MFB Walling in 1996, it was far from easy. Building a business from scratch meant very early mornings, long days and many late nights. There were challenges at every turn, but Mike had a vision and was determined to make it work.

Some of the labourers who had worked alongside Mike in the family business believed in him and his vision so much that they chose to leave with him and become part of his new journey. These men played an important role in helping Mike build MFB Walling from the ground up. They were there in the early days, working alongside him through the long hours and hard work that came with establishing a new company.

He was not alone in that journey. His wife, Debbie, stood beside him and played an important role in building MFB Walling from the ground up. While Mike worked outside, concentrating on manufacturing, installations and growing the business, Debbie ran the office, assisted with the books and helped manage the day-to-day administration.

Together, with the support of those early employees, they built more than just a factory. They built a family business based on hard work, loyalty, quality and perseverance.

Mike’s goal from the beginning was simple: to manufacture excellent-quality products for his customers while building a name that would become respected and well known in the precast walling industry.

What started with a young boy picking up pieces of stone and brick after school would eventually become MFB Walling — a company built from experience, determination, family, loyalty and a passion for doing things right.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠

The first precast walling company established in the East Rand — Decorative Fencing — dates back to the 1950s, when Barney (W.F. Barnard) and I began our journey into the precast concrete walling industry.

Barney was an apprentice at the time, working for the Lupini Brothers, who specialised in high-end in-situ terrazzo, precast architectural cladding and artistic concrete sculptures.

During his apprenticeship, Barney met a young apprentice from Italy who introduced him to the walling systems being manufactured in Italy. Barney came home one day and told me that he believed this was a great idea — and something we should pursue.

And that was where it all began.

We started manufacturing our own concrete moulds for precast walling systems. In those days, everything was made by hand, and the moulds took an incredible amount of time, skill and effort to manufacture.

Our operation began on a small plot in Benoni, with very humble beginnings — but with a great deal of determination, hard work and belief in what we were building.

What started in the 1950s became the foundation of a family legacy — one that would continue through generations and help shape the precast walling industry.

And here’s an interesting tidbit: one of our most popular precast walling systems, which remains incredibly popular to this day, was actually named after the famous detective series Columbo.

It’s a small piece of history, but it forms part of the story behind an industry, a family and a legacy that continues today.
