AOJ is a progressive Johannesburg based commercial architecture and interior design practice, formally established in 2009. Directed by founding partners Alessio Lacovig & Mike Rassmann and guided by principles of best practice, at AOJ, we strive to create bespoke architecture that is not only interesting, sustainable and innovative but architecture that preserves the integrity and functionality o

f every build. While there is no limit to the type, scale or complexity of projects that we tackle our specialities lie in new builds and extensive additions and alterations in the commercial, residential and education sectors. In addition to this we also have a passion for micro projects or small builds which have a focus on attention to detail. Our emphasis on professionalism ensures efficiency and constructive collaboration with fellow professionals and consultants involved on all our projects. At the same time we are cognisant of the fact that each of our clients has different needs and wants. We take this seriously, which is why we support and guide our clients throughout the design, build and hand over process. It is this commitment and professionalism that has led to strong and long lasting relationships with all stakeholders, most importantly our clients. On any project there are many factors to consider and this is the reason why AOJ not only offer a standard architectural service but also additional design and investigative focused services, which include site investigations, interior design, space planning and custom furniture design.

As we celebrate 15 years of AOJ Architecture and Interiors, we remember where we started, where we’ve been, and where we are now. In the next couple of weeks, we will be looking back and remembering one project from each year of our company’s existence.

Here is a sneak peak into the office interior that was created by the AOJ team in 2024. The building is located in Modderfontein. The minimalist finishes complimented by concrete and wooden finishes create a contemporary office space. The lighting plays a significant role in the office interior perception. The linear lights lead through and towards the office spaces where the track lights compliment them creating a display for many art works throughout the office.

This office interior was created by the AOJ team along with the tenant/developer, Orpen Brothers Properties, to create a simple, modern and clean office space. The natural light, which penetrates every office space, compliments the carefully chosen minimalist finishes and bespoke office lighting to create a pleasant working environment. The building is located in the Boundary Park Industrial Park in Northgate, Roodepoort. If you are considering new offices or giving your existing one a revamp please get in touch with us. As we celebrate 15 years of AOJ Architecture and Interiors, we remember where we started, where we’ve been, and where we are now. In the next couple of weeks, we will be looking back and remembering one project from each year of our company’s existence.

This is our latest project at Boundary Park initiated in 2022 and designed for the owner of the Industrial Park, Orpen Brothers. It seamlessly complements the other warehouses on the site. Located on the smallest plot, the warehouse spans just over 500m², with the office area measuring 1350m². Staying true to the building's aesthetic, the structure incorporates face brick, metal sheeting, and concrete. The office block flows into the warehouse space, while the reception area, featuring a pergola terrace above, extends outward, clearly defining the building's entrance.

Our Story

The Architects Of Justice is a Johannesburg based practice formally established in 2009. The three founding partners have a shared history of work and study going back fifteen years. AOJ as they have become known specialise in “not specialising”. Focusing on understanding their client’s needs AOJ is able to tackle building projects of varying scale, type and complexity in any location. They take a practical approach to each individual project looking for hidden design opportunities, and couple aesthetics with sensible architecture. AOJ’s ability to work with and coordinate other professionals and consultants on a project team paired with their willingness and dedication to guiding their client’s through the project process from beginning to end has led to strong, long lasting relationships with all stakeholders, most importantly their clients. Further to architecture AOJ also offers “value adding services” to their clients such as interior architecture, space planning and custom furniture design. AOJ creates responsible architecture that is neither commonplace, overtly pragmatic or naively utopian. Instead by challenging the ineffectual norms and benchmarks of the industry; AOJ appoints justice to the idea from conception to ex*****on.
