Large parts of Johannesburg are experiencing water disruptions due to emergency repairs on a major Rand Water pipeline.

Nombuso Shabalala, spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, confirms the crisis stems from the F12/F39 bulk pipeline failure.

Shabalala states that Rand Water has been forced to isolate the Eikenhof Pump Station to conduct critical repairs.

In an official statement, she warns residents in Soweto, the Commando System, Randburg, Roodepoort and the Deep South to expect no water to severely reduced pressure.

The spokesperson confirms Johannesburg Water is working around the clock with Rand Water to restore supply and has deployed water tankers to priority areas.

Ward councillors are identifying distribution points for vulnerable communities.

Shabalala urges residents to use water sparingly and monitor official channels for updates every two hours.
