Secondary containment is designed to contain leaks and spills, but it can only be effective if it has sufficient available capacity.
Regularly inspect spill pallets and investigate accumulated liquids.

Maintaining available containment capacity helps ensure your secondary containment system is ready to perform when a leak or spill occurs. Small routine inspections today can help prevent much larger problems tomorrow.

Regular inspections of chemical containers are a simple but often overlooked part of safe chemical storage.

Damaged containers, deteriorated seals and loose lids can allow leaks or vapours to escape, increasing the risk of corrosion, contamination and product loss.

Taking a few minutes to inspect containers regularly can help prevent costly issues down the line.

Not every spill containment solution needs to be permanent.

Portable spill containment berms provide a temporary secondary containment solution. When the job is done, these berms can be cleaned, folded and stored in a fraction of their deployment size.

We've written a short article covering the key benefits of portable berms.

The last 2 days at the A-OSH Expo have been great.
It has been a pleasure meeting SHEQ professionals, safety managers, engineers, and industry leaders from across South Africa and abroad.

From spill containment and hazardous storage solutions to emergency response equipment, we enjoyed discussing the challenges organisations face and how the right safety practices and equipment can help improve compliance, environmental protection, and workplace safety.

Thank you to everyone who visited our stand so far and took the time to connect with the Spill Doctor team.

Join us today for the final day of the exhibition! Hall 3, stand D03.

A spill pallet might seem like a simple product, but material quality, UV resistance, load ratings, and chemical compatibility all play a major role in long-term performance.

In our latest article, we look at some of the most common reasons polyethylene spill pallets fail, and what businesses should look for when selecting spill containment equipment.

How often should emergency showers and eyewash stations be tested?

It’s something that often gets overlooked - until it’s needed.

According to ANSI Z358.1, emergency eyewash stations and safety showers should be activated weekly.

This isn’t just for compliance. Weekly testing helps to:

✅Verify proper water flow

✅Flush out stagnant water

✅Check for blockages or valve issues

✅Ensure the unit will operate instantly in an emergency

A more thorough inspection should also be carried out periodically to confirm full compliance with performance requirements.

In an emergency, there’s no time to troubleshoot.

These units need to work immediately, every time.

When last were yours tested?
