Yesterday really showed why it’s a good idea for an interior designer to create design concepts for your new home, kitchen or any renovation before you start building!

Not only can you get accurate estimates, but you can also avoid big disappointments that can’t be changed.

Check out what we discovered during our first visit to our lovely client’s home in Lesotho. Sadly, we only received the plans after the building was already up.

Fortunately for the client, we can still make changes before the final fit-out, painting and flooring.

Site visits are a must because we realised the plan sizes were quite different from the actual measurements on site!

We always do the renders first, get them approved and then hand them over to our wonderful architect to prevent this from happening.

Is it time to downsize or relocate abroad?

A well-thought-out decor plan can help make your new space feel warm and functional without feeling cramped. Here are a few strategies to help you decide what to take with:

Multi-Functional Furniture
Choose pieces like a sofa bed, ottoman with storage, or a dining table that extends only when needed.

Vertical Storage
Use the walls by adding floating shelves, tall bookshelves, or mounted cabinets to free up floor space.

Light and Neutral Tones
Opt for soft colour palettes to make rooms appear larger and more open.

Mirrors and Reflective Surfaces
All to make your smaller space seem larger
Caution look what will be reflected that it's not a solid wall
Rather a view to garden plants or if lucky enough the ocean

Get an expert to design and 3d your new space with your precious pieces in mind
They will place all and refurb if necessary to make your new home feel familiar but fresh

These all apply to relocating to smaller accommodation overseas as well

Your Art and rugs is the easy way to make a new space feel familiar and yours !

Attached are a few examples
- 2 current clients furniture, rugs and art and how I am using these in their new places before they even move

Also a second return client's revamped guest bedroom after initially doing her interiors
28 years ago.
We recovered furniture did new curtains added wallpaper to make an existing room feel like , using her existing traditional pieces but adding the green for effect

And for relocating when you have found your space
We can place your items being exported in your new home with 3d renders just always take photos of items in container
See my niece's apartment in The Netherlands planned the minute they signed the lease and when furniture arrived they could easily place all

Here are some simple and affordable ways to refresh and transform a room without breaking the bank:

1. Rearrange the furniture
- Changing the layout can completely alter the feel of a space. Try positioning your largest furniture differently or swapping items between rooms.
2. Add a splash of colour
- Paint a single accent wall, or use removable wallpaper for an instant lift. Even small touches like colourful cushions, throws, or rugs can make the room feel new.
3. Update soft furnishings
- Swap out curtains, cushion covers, or bedding. Affordable fabrics can make a big difference to the overall atmosphere.
4. Use plants for freshness
- Indoor plants bring life and energy to a room. Even one or two small pot plants or hanging plants can add warmth and vibrancy.
5. Switch up lighting
- Adding a floor lamp, fairy lights, or swapping to warm-toned bulbs can create a cosy mood. Lampshades are also inexpensive and can add character.
6. Declutter and style your surfaces
- Removing unnecessary items and reorganising shelves with books, ornaments, or candles can make your space feel more intentional and inviting.
7. DIY décor
- Personal touches like framed photos, homemade art, or upcycled furniture add charm without costing much.
