A year ago when I glanced at my bank balance, a wave of despair washed over me. I had less than R10 to my name, and hunger gnawed at my empty stomach. That night, for the first time in a long while, I went to bed with aching hunger, vowing to etch that feeling into my memory forever.
In the face of skepticism and doubt from others, who said I would never succeed or make it, I refused to succumb. Instead, I lowered my head and committed myself to doing whatever it took to prove them wrong.
I won't sugarcoat it—the months that followed were grueling, painful, and far from enjoyable. They tested me in ways I never thought possible. But when you find yourself cornered, you learn to either find a way out or give up. And I was never one to give up.
Everyone doubted me, and many dismissed me as insignificant. They walked away, just like everyone had done before. But amidst the solitude, I found solace in the reflection staring back at me in the mirror. It reminded me that this was not the end but the beginning of my story.
I fought tooth and nail, scraping and clawing my way forward. Often, it felt like I was standing alone against the tempestuous storms of life, but I held my ground. Whenever I wanted to surrender, I conjured the memory of that hunger-filled night and drew strength from it. And so, I kept getting back up, persevering despite every stumble.
There were countless nights that stretched into eternity, and days where I yearned to throw in the towel. I won't deny it—I experienced those moments frequently. Yet, with each passing day, I grew stronger and wiser. Yes, I encountered failure, but I refused to let it define me. I endured pain, but I never embraced victimhood.
I discovered that one can plummet to rock bottom within days, yet the climb back up can take years. Every step of that journey is etched in my memory—the victories, the setbacks, and the lessons learned. And still, I pressed on, unyielding in my resolve.
I paid the price for my ascent with an abundance of tears and unwavering effort. And when I finally reached the pinnacle of my lifelong aspirations, I turned around to gaze upon the path I had traversed. In that moment, I realized I yearned for more. I recognized the untapped potential within me, and I understood that my capabilities extended far beyond what I had imagined.
I learned a valuable lesson—others may doubt, criticize, and write us off, but they cannot strip away the success we have earned. It is ours to keep, a testament to our unwavering determination.
Many have asked how I know the struggles, and I can attest that this is my story. It may resonate with you, for we all face our own trials. Yet, within those trials lies the opportunity to rise above and believe in ourselves. We are meant for greatness, capable of achieving more than we can fathom.

Working closely with the school and building on creating a safer school Helderberg Super Cops is super proud of this and the Bobbies will ensure that the kids have a safe space daily.
