Insect Science, Phase 2

A small office building, known as “The Hub”, was designed around a unique challenge. Unlike the other buildings on the development, this portion of the site offered very little in terms of external views. Rather than fighting this constraint, we embraced it.

The result is a building that turns inward — centred around a tranquil courtyard that becomes the heart of the space. Offices, lounges and meeting areas all open onto this internal garden, creating a calm and connected working environment.

Timber screens, natural light, stone, planting and warm textures were carefully combined to create a subtle Zen-inspired atmosphere; a quiet retreat within a modern workspace.

At Bardi Creativ, we believe architecture is not only about responding to a site, but sometimes about creating the experience the site cannot offer on its own.

Bushveld Living - by Bardi Creativ

Designed around our client’s vision of a modern bushveld lodge lifestyle, this home celebrates warm, natural materials and effortless indoor-outdoor living. Expansive entertainment spaces, for a large family, framed with locally sourced timber, create a relaxed openness where architecture and landscape flow seamlessly together.

From dramatic timber pergolas to layered lighting and custom-crafted interiors, every detail was carefully considered to enhance the experience of the home. The kitchen, designed in-house by Bardi Creativ, reflects our belief that great architecture goes beyond the building itself — it’s also about the finer details that shape everyday living.

We love designing spaces that feel bold, grounded and deeply personal to the people who live in them.

⭐️Star Spares⭐️ Tzaneen

After the original Star Spares building was destroyed by fire in 2019, we were tasked with designing a new commercial building — while still working within the footprint of the previous structure.

Situated along the main gateway into Tzaneen, the new design needed to be striking, dynamic, and instantly recognizable. Strong industrial forms, bold geometry and a powerful street presence help the building stand out along this busy route.

The result is a space that not only rebuilds what was lost, but reflects the energy, innovation and forward-thinking spirit of the Star Spares brand — creating a destination for customers and a new landmark for the town.

Star Spares continues to expand with renovations and additions, year on year... and Bardi Creativ is amped to be part of every step.

Leopard Rock, Limpopo - House on the Cliff

Perched on a rocky cliff above a gentle river in Leopard Rock Nature Reserve, this contemporary safari lodge residence was designed as the perfect bush retreat for family and friends.

Natural materials play a leading role in the design – textured stone walls, warm timber elements, and soft neutral tones that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Generous decks and outdoor living spaces extend the home into the bush, creating places to gather around the fire, watch the river below, and take in the sweeping views of the wilderness.

Inside, a dramatic open-truss roof structure and large living spaces capture the spirit of a modern safari lodge, combining comfort, openness, and connection to nature.

Doornhoek 4716 | Bardi Creativ

Set within the rolling landscapes of Doornhoek Equestrian Estate, this home is all about living large, light, and a little bit playfully.

Designed for a fun-loving family, the house opens itself generously to its surroundings—framing long views, catching golden-hour light, and blurring the line between inside and out.

A series of bold, clean volumes are softened by warm materials and expansive glazing, creating spaces that feel both refined and relaxed. From the open-plan living areas spilling onto the pool deck, to the layered outdoor terraces and entertainment zones, every corner invites connection—whether it’s a quiet sunset moment or a lively weekend gathering.

At its heart, the home celebrates space: big views, big light, and even bigger living.

Insect Science - Phase 1 : The ChemisTree

We had the privilege of designing new laboratory for Insect Science, a pioneering biotech company based in Tzaneen. Behind its calm architectural expression lies a bunker of highly advanced research laboratories — world-class scientific facilities located in a small rural town in South Africa.

Projects like this remind us that innovation doesn’t only happen in big cities. Sometimes it happens quietly, in the Lowveld, where science, agriculture and technology come together to shape the future.

Designing The ChemisTree was a rewarding challenge: creating a building that balances the precision of high-tech laboratory environments with warm, grounded architecture that feels at home in Tzaneen. Small town. Big science.

Insect Science is a biotechnology company based in Tzaneen, Limpopo, developing sustainable pest-control solutions for agriculture.

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, agriculture is dominated by high-value export crops such as citrus, macadamias, avocados, and mangoes. These crops are highly sensitive to insect damage, especially as export markets in Europe, the UK, and Asia have extremely strict pest-control standards.

Insect Science studies how insects communicate using pheromones and other natural chemical signals. By replicating these signals, they develop products such as traps, lures, and mating-disruption systems that help farmers monitor and control crop pests.

This innovative approach allows growers to reduce the use of heavy chemical pesticides while still effectively protecting their crops.

Today, their technology is used around the world in crops such as citrus, macadamia and other high-value fruit crops — helping farmers manage pests more sustainably while meeting demanding export standards.

Some buildings are rebuilt. Others are reborn.

After the original Letaba Junction Lodge & Restaurant was lost to fire, we were given the opportunity as architects to reimagine not just a building — but a destination. Set along the banks of the Letaba River, the new design celebrates resilience, community, and the unmistakable character of the Lowveld.

The architectural language leans into a rustic farm-style aesthetic — honest materials, textured brickwork, exposed timber, generous verandas, and layered rooflines that feel right at home under the Limpopo sky. The design embraces indoor-outdoor living, with shaded terraces and river-facing views that invite guests to slow down and stay awhile.

What makes this project special is not only the architecture, but the story. From ashes to a vibrant, welcoming space, Letaba Junction has become a beloved gathering place for locals and a must-visit stop for tourists exploring the region.

Warm. Grounded. Unpretentious.
A true Lowveld landmark — reborn.

Hello Hoedspruit!!

We recently had the privilege of designing and project managing the Khiwane Boutique Hotel — a project that truly celebrates place, people, and atmosphere.

Set in the heart of the bushveld, the hotel blends contemporary architecture with a calm, chic safari vibe. Clean lines, warm textures, natural materials and layered lighting come together to create spaces that feel both refined and relaxed — modern comfort rooted firmly in its African context.

This project was made even more special by the hands-on involvement of the owners, whose passion and vision shaped every step of the journey. Collaborating so closely made the process not only rewarding, but genuinely fun — the kind of teamwork that elevates a project from good to memorable.

This design project perfectly reflects the building’s ultimate purpose: creativity, rejuvenation, and reimagining what’s possible when it comes to finishing and decorating your building projects.

We transformed an old, ordinary house into a bold showpiece destination in Tzaneen. With a bit of wit, a touch of playfulness, and a strong focus on high-quality finishes, the space now embodies the expertise that DuLife is known for.

Every corner invites exploration. From flooring and lighting to sanitary ware, taps, wall coatings and finishes… from blinds, shutters and awnings to patio furniture, pizza ovens and braai installations — it’s a true one-stop shop for décor and building project needs.

But more than that, it’s an experience.

A space where clients can see, touch, compare and imagine.
It has quickly become a favorite hang-out for us and our clients — and proof that with creativity and the right finishes, even the most “boring” structure can become something exceptional.
