Hello fellow organisers! I hope you had a chance to have a few days of holiday to relax and unwind a little.
January always feels like a fresh new start, a chance to think about how you’d like to change things up for the better. I never feel like I’m ready for a new year without a new diary! Are you the same? I spend some time thinking about what I need the planner to do for me and then make sure it’s a cover I love - after all, it’s with you for the next 365 days!

Fresh starts often call for fresh food, especially if you’ve enjoyed the richer indulgences over December. I love that our Summer is at the start of the year - it feels so easy to eat fruit, drink more water and find new recipes for weeknight dinners.

It’s the perfect time to look into your pantry and re-organise the staples and perhaps add some interesting new food choices to your cupboards.
Have you tried quinoa before? Or buckwheat? Some extra new spices to change up the flavours of your veggies?
These may seem like small changes but they can add up to a big difference in a year.

Why not make it a hand crafted gift? No you won’t need a glue gun and or have to clean up glitter for the next three months… and we promise it will be a hit with everyone!

Who doesn’t enjoy 🥞pancakes for breakfast?
Gift your own Pancake mix in a glass jar!
Add all the dry ingredients into a beautiful glass jar and tie a tag around the jar with the instructions and which fresh ingredients they need to add when making them.

The best part is you can have a set of gift labels made to stick on your jar from herbandhaus.com that you can use for any occasion. 

This is a fantastic recipe from . It’s our go-to recipe for perfect pancakes!

Add these ingredients to the jar:

🥞1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 
🥞1 tablespoon baking powder
🥞1/2 teaspoon salt
 🥞2 tablespoons granulated sugar
🥞Add choc chips to the top layer - optional

Instructions to write on a tag to tie around the jar:

1. Pour 1 cup of soy milk, 1/2 cup water and 2 tablespoons of oil into a bowl.

2. Add the pancake mix and stir with a large spoon until just combined. 

3. Heat a large pan over medium-high heat. Drop some of the batter onto the pan.
Cook until bubbles form, then flip and cook until golden brown on the other side, about 1-2 minutes. Repeat with all the remaining batter.  
Serve with syrup and fresh fruit.

You might want to try them for yourself this weekend! 😉

Can you name this pasta shape? I’ll give you a clue with this emoji: 🦋

Ok so that clue is probably only useful if you speak Italian! If you’re an English speaker, you’d probably refer to these as bowtie pasta.

But let’s learn the Italian name so you can order it with confidence on your next trip to Italy!

This shape of pasta is called Farfalle, pronounced “far-FALL-ay."
The word "farfalle" means "butterflies" in Italian. The pasta dates back to around the 1500s, originating in Northern Italy in the Emilia-Romagna and Lombardia regions. Farfalle works best with recipes that feature creamy sauces as the sauce gets caught in the folds of the pasta.
