Manna Nurseries Presents: Orchard Management Tips (Winter Care)❄️

Pruning and canopy management
Prunning and canopy management in winter are key for fruit trees. It's not just about cutting branches— it directly affects tree health, yield, and fruit quality.

Importance of fruit tree pruning:

🍇*Improves fruit production*
Pruning removes unproductive or old wood and encourages new growth, where most fruit develops. This leads to higher yields and better-quality fruits.

☀️*Enhances sunlight pe*******on*
Opening up the canopy allows sunlight to reach all parts of the tree. Sunlight is essential for fruit coloring, sugar formation (sweeter fruits) and even ripening.

🍃*Improves air circulation*
Good airflow reduces humidity inside the tree canopy, which helps prevent diseases like fungal infections like powdery mildew and leaf spots.

🌳*Controls tree size and shape*
Pruning keeps trees at a manageable height and shape, making it easier to harvest fruits, spray chemicals, inspect for pests and diseases.

🍂*Removes diseased and damaged parts*
Cutting off dead, broken or infected branches prevents the spread of pests and diseases to healthy parts of the tree.

🌳*Strengthens tree structure*
Proper pruning develops a strong framework of branches that can support heavy fruit loads without breaking.

Well-pruned trees tend to start producing fruit earlier compared to neglected trees.

When trees are not overcrowded, sprays can reach all parts of the tree more effectively.

Prune after harvest (May-June). Remove dead wood and thin crowded branches

*Citrus🍊🍋*
Prune lightly in winter. Remove crossing branches and water shoots

*Grapes🍇*
Prune hard in winter (June-July). Leave 2-3 buds per spur

*Litchi*
Prune after harvest. Thin out crowded branches and maintain shape

*Papaya🌴*
Prune lower leaves, remove old fruit stalks. Not typically winter-pruned

*Indigenous trees🌳*
Prune minimally. Focus on removing dead or diseased wood. Respect natural growth patterns
