Want a lush, healthy hedge that turns heads? Regular pruning isn’t just about keeping things neat, it helps maintain dense growth, good structure and the shape you want.

Here's our top 3 reasons that keeping up with your hedge trimming matters:

1 - Thicker, Fuller Growth: Cutting back branch tips triggers dense new growth, preventing patchy or hollow spots inside the hedge.

2 - Disease Prevention: Removing dead or overgrown branches improves airflow and sunlight pe*******on, keeping fungal infections and pests at bay.

3 - Keep it at the right size: Regular pruning keeps your hedge at the size you want it to be. Many hedging species can grow tall if left to their own devices, so if you are aiming for a hedge of a certain size, regular trimming is the way to go.

When was the last time your hedges got a trim? If they are starting to get out of control or just need a tidy, give us a call and we'll take care of them for you! 0417 684 571

No branch is out of reach for our team!

Are your branches overhanging the roof? Too high to reach? Or in a tricky spot?
That’s where our arborists come in.

Using specialist climbing techniques or our Elevated Work Platform, we can safely access and prune even the trickiest parts of your trees. Whether your issues are high in the canopy, over a roof or in a spot a tower simply can’t access — our arborists can get there.

Professional tree pruning can help:
• Reduce the risk of falling limbs and property damage
• Remove dead, damaged or hazardous branches
• Improve tree structure and appearance
• Promote healthier, longer-lived trees

Are your branches getting too close for comfort?

As arborists, fungi play a significant role in helping us understand the health of trees and what might be happening just out of sight.

On the beneficial end of the spectrum, Mycorrhizal is one form of beneficial soil fungi which live in association with the roots of a tree and form a mutually beneficial working relationship. Mycorrhizal fungi can help extend the effective reach of the root system and improve the trees access to water and nutrients. In exchange, the tree supplies the fungi with carbohydrates, or sugar molecules, produced through photosynthesis.

Where soil conditions or root health have been compromised, appropriate soil treatments may help improve the root-zone environment and support beneficial soil biology, including mycorrhizal fungi. However, identifying the underlying cause of tree decline is important before deciding on a treatment.

Visible fungi, often referred to as fungal fruiting bodies, can sometimes indicate that decay is occurring within the wood or roots of a tree. The species of fungus, its location and the condition of the surrounding tree can provide an arborist with valuable information about what may be occurring internally. Some fungi colonise and decay living woody tissue, while others predominantly break down wood that is already dead.

Other fungal diseases such as Anthracnose, may cause symptoms such as dead or discoloured areas on leaves, premature leaf drop, twig dieback and, in some species, cankers (localised areas of dead or diseased tissue) on twigs, bark or branches.

If you see fungi growing on or around your trees, or your tree is not thriving as it should, the best course of action is to have it inspected by a Local Tree Care Arborist. We can assess the tree, identify the likely cause and recommend the best course of action going forward, whether offering a treatment from an Arborist or advice on managing the issues yourself.

Trees aren’t just nice to look at—they’re hard at work for your property every single day!

Did you know strategically placed trees can:
• Drop surrounding summer temps by up to 9°C (hello lower power bills!)
• Provide essential habitat & food for native wildlife
• Cut wind speeds by up to 10%
• Boost overall property value
• Reduce stress & improve mental health

Studies have shown that households with access to green open spaces improve mental and physical health, including that being nearby or within view of green spaces may enhance recovery from periods of psychosocial stress and increase optimism.*

If you are unsure about why you might need an arborist, here are our top 3 reasons:

1 - You want to ensure your tree is structurally sound and healthy - Whether it is through formative pruning a young tree or maintaining an older tree, our arborists have an in-depth understanding of how trees grow and develop. Pruning helps to shape the structure of your tree and reduces required maintenance and ongoing structural issues as it gets older.

2-You are proactive about minimising the risk of branch or whole tree failure. A well-maintained tree has less risk of branch and whole tree failure. Our Local Tree Care experts are trained to spot health and structural issues that the average person may not notice and can provide advice and treat issues before they become a problem.

3-You have the wrong tree in the wrong location - Whether the tree is too big for your space, is in decline, or has started impacting on surrounding infrastructure including fences and buildings, Local Tree Care can safely and efficiently remove any problem trees.

Our team is professional, efficient and will give you the peace of mind that the job is done properly and to Australian Standards.

Are you concerned that your tree may not have survived the winter? Here are three simple tests to check if your tree is dormant or if it is time to say goodbye.

1. The Scratch Test (The Best Quick Check)
Find a small twig or branch about the thickness of a pencil. Use your fingernail to gently scratch away the top layer of bark. If the layer underneath is bright green and moist, the tree is dormant and alive. If it is brown, dry, and brittle, that specific branch is dead. Test a few different areas around the canopy to ensure it's not an isolated dead twig.

2. The Snap Test
Healthy, living wood retains moisture, making it flexible. Take a small outer twig and gently bend it back on itself. A living, dormant branch will bend easily and resist breaking. If the twig snaps cleanly with a loud crack and looks dry inside, that part of the tree has died.

3. Inspect the Buds and Trunk
Take a closer look at the tree's structure for subtle signs of life. Dormant trees produce buds that are plump and securely attached ready for spring. Dry, shrivelled buds that flake off at a touch indicate a problem.

Look at the base of the trunk. The presence of fungal fruiting bodies may indicate internal wood rot and decay. If bark is peeling, deeply cracked and falls away to reveal smooth dry wood underneath, this is also a common sign of a dying tree.

Call us if your tree fails these tests across its entire canopy. Dead trees can become a significant safety hazard during high winds and winter storms, and the risks may be further increased depending on what caused the tree to decline.

Getting your tree roots prepped now sets them up to thrive through the coming spring and summer heat. One of the best things you can do this month is a simple base cleanup and mulch refresh!

The 3-Step Ground Refresh:
- Clear weeds and debris around the base of your tree.
- Apply a 7–10cm layer of high-quality organic mulch over the root zone.
- Keep the mulch ring away from the trunk! Never pile mulch directly against the bark.

Proper mulching protects your roots from any late-winter frosts, retains moisture, suppresses weeds, helps reduce soil compaction, and buffers root temperature fluctuations.

Did your trees struggle last summer? It might be time to look at the roots.

Do you recall seeing pale, or yellowing leaves? Were the leaves smaller than usual? Was the canopy patchier and did you see dieback on the tips of branches? These signs can indicate that your soil is nutrient-depleted and struggling to support the canopy.

As we enter the last month of winter and trees prepare for their active spring growth cycle, it could be an opportune time to explore soil rejuvenation treatments.

How our Soil Rejuvenation Treatments help:
- Replenish essential nutrients in the root zone.
- Restore beneficial soil microbes.
- Strengthen feeder roots so trees can absorb maximum water and minerals.

Give your trees the boost they need going into Spring. Contact Local Tree Care to arrange a soil and tree health inspection.
