Steel framing doesn’t get much attention once the walls are closed up, but it does a lot of the work behind the finish. 👀

From studs and track to larger framing components, having the right lengths and profiles ready makes the next stage of the build a lot easier.

Insulation isn’t the whole R-value story. 👀

Small detail. Big building-science difference.

A new Australian study has examined how plasterboard fall-off affects the fire performance of lightweight floor systems.

Published in the Fire Safety Journal, researchers Fatheen Hisham and Mahen Mahendran analysed 56 full-scale fire tests and found that the timing of plasterboard detachment can significantly affect how quickly heat reaches the structure above. The study also developed new equations to help predict fall-off time and overall fire resistance.

For the industry, the findings reinforce an important point: fire performance depends on the tested system as a whole, not just one product.

It’s not just the weight of the load that matters. 👀

A forklift’s safe lifting capacity also depends on the load centre, or how far the load’s centre of gravity sits from the mast. The farther forward the load sits, the more leverage it creates and the less weight the forklift can safely handle.

That’s especially important with long, bulky materials like plasterboard sheets.
Same weight. Different position. Different load on the forklift.
