Just look at this European summer and the extreme temperatures of climate change already taking effect. We can’t continue to sleepwalk into the realities of our future climate. Government must act to enable climatically responsible urban design. Repost from Age of Collapse

A massive wildfire continues to burn on the Italian island of Sicily.
Tens of thousands of people have been forced to evacuate as another extreme heatwave moves across Sicily, Spain, France and other parts of southern Europe, igniting wildfires as temperatures exceed 44C.
Footage shows vast infernos sweeping through the island as dramatic fires scorched the Sicilian hills around Bivona in the central Agrigento province, while the capital of Palermo suffered blackouts.

The risks: Actuaries are now warning that at 3C or more of heating by 2050, there could be more than 4 billion deaths, significant sociopolitical fragmentation worldwide, failure of states (with resulting rapid, enduring, and significant loss of capital), and extinction events. If it’s 2C by 2050 (guaranteed) that’s 2 billion deaths. Both scenarios are 20-40 times worse than both world wars combined, respectively. Feeling overwhelmed is understandable, but doing nothing guarantees nothing changes.
Start somewhere:
• Join or support a local climate group.
• Pressure politicians to phase out fossil fuels.
• Move your money away from banks that finance fossil fuel expansion.
• Reduce your reliance on fossil fuels, plastics, and high-emission products where you can.
• Switch to a plant-based diet for your own health and the health of the planet.
• Talk about the climate crisis with friends, family, and coworkers.
• Support independent climate journalism and organizations doing the work.
• Donate, volunteer, organize, protest, vote, and keep showing up.
No single action is enough on its own. But millions of people taking action together can shift politics, culture, and the economy.
