At the end of my opening keynote, I asked the audience to do the following:
We're constantly talking about:
โข creating a better future
โข wanting to be more regenerative
โข more justice and fairness
For humanity.
But there is one thing we often forget: a new future is mostly built on ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ
I'm raised extremely rationally, so I must admit I was a bit scared to ask this to the audience:
๐๐ผ Now, please turn to your neighbor and look each other in the eyes for one minute, in silence
๐ฎ At first, people were a bit uneasy; after all, we're in the European Commission, right, where we are serious people doing serious stuff.
People were also laughing a bit.
But.. after twenty seconds, the room went silent. People took on the challenge.
They took the time to connect. All kind of emotions surfaced.
Silence
"You've just seen humanity" I said.
And people started applauding.
Fiew
Why is it so strange and difficult for human beings to embrace our true nature?
Why did it take me so much courage to do one of the most primal things ever
And why is it so hard to look each other in the eyes?
I was afraid people would think this is some sort of spiritual mumbo jumbo.
But how far have we been disconnected to even think that?
It's just being human.
๐ค What gave me the courage then to do this anyway?
The present has proven that rationality alone will not solve the world's challenges.
If you don't believe this, do what I otherwise never advise to do: watch the news
We need human ๐๐จ๐ง๐ง๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง and we need ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ.
