Today is the day!

I’m set up at Village Mall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with copies of The Bay Kitchen and my Newfoundland children’s books.

To be honest, I’m feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. Writing these books was one thing, but putting myself out there and sharing them in person is a whole different experience. Still, I’m incredibly grateful to be here and to have the chance to meet readers face-to-face.

If you’re in the area, stop by and say hello. I’d love to chat about Newfoundland cooking, storytelling, or just meet some of the people who have supported this journey.

A friendly reminder that the recipes I share aren’t always meant to be exact replicas of how Nan made them in 1952. The Bay Kitchen is about bringing traditional Newfoundland recipes into today’s kitchen. Sometimes that means a shortcut, a modern ingredient, or a little tweak to make life easier for busy families.

If you’re looking for the way your Nan made it, that’s wonderful. If you’re looking for the way Tiffany makes it, you’re in the right place.

Today in The Bay Kitchen, we’re making one of Newfoundland’s true comfort foods — homemade fish cakes. This is my Aunt Lori’s recipe and everyone loves them. Crispy on the outside, soft and savoury in the middle, these simple cod fish and potato cakes have been a staple in outport kitchens for generations. Whether served fresh from the frying pan with fries, potatoes or just a cup of tea, fish cakes always feel like home. Let’s get cooking.

Reflecting on this past year, it’s been a ride. It was filled with joy, uncertainty and so many moments that changed me. I got married, I moved, I worried endlessly about how my children would handle such a big change, and then my husband got sick. Suddenly we were facing a future we couldn’t predict, not knowing what it would mean for our family.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I started writing again.

I hadn’t done any serious writing since college, but once I started, it just flowed. Now I can’t stop. Every thought gets jotted down somewhere. Every idea turns into another page, another story, another possibility. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be creatively, and I truly believe there’s so much more to come.

Life is good. We are happy. We are healthy.

Here’s to the last year in my 30s. I’m not afraid to age. I’m excited to see who I continue to become. With each decade I spend on this earth, I become more and more who I’m supposed to be.
