Japanese knotweed is one of the most invasive plants in Nova Scotia. It can grow up to 8 cm (about 3 inches) per day and spreads from even tiny pieces of root.

Once it gets established, it is incredibly difficult to remove. At that point, a flamethrower starts to sound like a reasonable option... but unfortunately that’s not recommended. 😅

Mulch does more than make your garden look tidy.

It helps hold moisture in the soil, reduces weeds, and protects plant roots from temperature changes.

A layer of mulch can save you a lot of time pulling weeds and watering during the summer.

For most garden beds, 3- 4 inches is the perfect amount.

One of the most common reasons newly planted trees and shrubs struggle is not getting enough water.

A deep watering every few days is much better than a quick sprinkle every day. This encourages the roots to grow deeper into the soil.

If you’ve planted something new this spring, make sure it gets a good soak, especially during warm or windy weather.

Your plants will thank you. 🌿

Look at this gorgeous rose I purchased for a client last season. 🌹
I picked this one up from Atlantic Gardens, and I’m excited to see it bloom again this year.

The red and white petals are absolutely stunning.
If you’re looking for a show stopping rose for your garden, this is a great example of how much impact a single plant can make.
