April Feature Seed: Calendula!

Growing calendula is not only easy, it has many benefits and uses. You can use it as a trap crop to draw aphids and slugs away from vegetable crops. You can use the flower petals in the kitchen: fresh in salads, dried as a tea or added to meals as a poor man's saffron. Infuse in oils for soothing balms and salves for the skin.

Calendula grows happily in ground or raised beds and will continue producing more flowers if kept dead-headed.

March Feature Seed: Marconi Sweet Pepper!

March is a great time to start sweet pepper seeds. They don't require as much time to germinate and grow as hot peppers, but they certainly benefit from bottom heat, so get those seeds cozy and warm, with lots of light and they'll turn into healthy seedlings.

This early Italian variety is highly productive with foot-long fruits that sweeten as they ripen from green to red. The plants have great disease resistance and will grow into 2-3 foot tall bushes.

Niki's cat tested it out and he was very happy to have some fresh greens to nibble. It was very easy to sow in a small flower pot, no need for any grow lights, and they germinated within 5 days. Quick and easy, almost instant greens!
