FUN FACT FRIDAY!

Have you ever heard us talk about “board feet” and wondered what that actually means? 🤔

A board foot is simply a way of measuring the volume of lumber — not the length of the board.

📏 1 board foot = a piece of wood that is 1" thick × 12" wide × 12" long.

The basic formula is:

Thickness (inches) × Width (inches) × Length (feet) ÷ 12 = Board Feet

👉 For example, a 2" × 6" × 10' board contains 10 board feet of lumber.

Board-foot measurements are especially common when buying rough lumber and hardwoods, where pieces can come in different widths, thicknesses and lengths.

So next time you hear us say “board foot,” you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about! 😁

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF… STEVE SEPPEN

Today we’re taking you behind the scenes at Ridge Cedar to introduce you to Steve Seppen!

Steve joined the Ridge Cedar team in April of this year and has taken on the job of running our big Moulder — one of the machines that plays a huge role in turning rough lumber into the finished products our customers know us for.

On any given day, you’ll find Steve setting up the moulder, keeping an eye on the quality coming off the line, making adjustments, and helping keep production moving. From Tongue & Groove to Shiplap, Siding and other patterns, there’s a good chance Steve has had a hand in getting it ready for you!

Running the big moulder takes attention to detail, patience, and a good eye for quality — because we want those boards looking great when they leave our yard.

Steve may be one of the newer faces at Ridge Cedar, but he’s already become an important part of the crew.

Thanks for all your hard work, Steve! We’re glad to have you on The Ridge Cedar Team! 💚🌲

RIDGE’S FUN FACT FRIDAY!

Have you ever bought a 1 x 6 board, pulled out your tape measure and thought…

🤔 “Wait a minute… this isn’t actually 1" x 6"!”

You’re not imagining things! 😄

Lumber is commonly sold using its nominal size, which refers to the board’s size before the drying and dressing process. Once the board is finished, its actual dimensions are smaller.

So the next time you measure that board and wonder where the rest of it went… now you know! 😂🪚
