The richness of Maya textiles reflects the historical legacy of an ancestral culture. It serves as a vehicle of transmitting identity through meaningful patterns and symbols; it is also a functional object that reveals aspects of everyday life and, finally, an art form with its own aesthetic, requiring great skill and creativity.
The foundation of our textile bags is the backstrap loom, a weaving technique of pre-Hispanic origin. Originally, women wove rectangular pieces to make huipiles and rebozos, but over time these same handwoven textiles began to be used to create new accessories.
Our bags are the result of a creative collaboration with women artisans, who are compensated according to fair trade principles.
