A Mazda 2003 MX5 non start. We carried out a diagnostic confirming that the transceiver ring wasn’t interrogating the key, it turned out to be a faulty immobiliser box. We transferred the Motorola control chip on to a known good unit and got this customer back on the road 🚗.

Immo off on a old EDC15 ECU

I was called out to this 2003 T4 with a non start, suspected key issue. After a quick diagnostic no comms were achieved to the ECU via OBD. We removed the ECU and bench tested it confirming the unit was faulty and not the keys.

Unfortunately I had to attend after another local locksmith today. The guy had fitted a non oem ignition barrel to this A3 but just couldn’t seem to get the vehicle started. After four hours the guy blamed the customers use of WD40 on the ignition and walked away charging £300. I attended and within 10min diagnosed the fault and had the vehicle running. The customer now intends to contact the original locksmith and see if he’ll replace the faulty part he’s supplied, fitted and failed to diagnose 😡.

Toyota’s are one of the most expensive manufacturers to fix when you’ve lost all your keys and don’t have a backup. You may not even realise you have a Toyota as with this Peugeot 108, it’s really a Toyota Aygo. Some models can cost in excess of 3k to sort out if you find yourself in this predicament . Get a spare while you still can. Basic non remote keys start from £75 depending on model, system and location.
