Nice day dodging the showers today at a job for a repeat customer in old Aberdeen, we started broadleaf pruning season with the beginning of June so you will see a lot of pruning posts over the next wee while I would expect.

A lift and height reduction for the Holly, and selective branch reduction for the Yew, goes to show that you don’t need to scalp trees to help them look their best or maintain them, sometimes less is more.

Big change to the garden, light and overall aesthetic for some relatively minor tree works ❤️

Second team was in Turriff doing more of the same for another repeat customer, we are very lucky to have so many lovely folk to work with 😊❤️

Fab job this one just down the road from us in Cullen last week, it had a significantly overgrown hedge blocking the view of the building and keeping the garden and windows very dark, we have taken it right down but left the stumps to regrow. It will soon be back as a feature framing the house, rather than blocking the house entirely from view and light!

Satisfying this one ❤️ interesting find excavating a long overgrown b&b sign hanger also, sounds like they are going to tidy it up and use it for their house sign in future - you could barely see it when we started!

Of course, as always, we carefully checked for nests both before and during, some small sections not photographed have been left until nesting is completed later in the season. We look forwards to seeing it - and the lovely owners again, in a few months.

A few before and after pics from a mature garden we have been taking care of through two owners and 6 years now.

As it has matured everything has grown together and become a little too crowded, this is our second round in 6 years of just clearing things out a bit and making space for the best features to really pop, they have a gardener who manages the normal bushes between our visits, we do the hedges annually otherwise.

The understory now looking at little bare but not for long, the stumps have been left untreated for wanted species, so they will be becoming bushes again in no time, but easier to manage and looking better in the long term. Sometimes you have to pull the plaster off and clear a space to see your feet, to make the most of your garden.

Its great seeing the Whitebeam and Pine highlighted properly rather than hidden behind the cypress, red maple and bush mess.

We've been so busy we have accidentally slid through a bit of a company milestone...

Epic Tree Care Limited turned 10 years old as of 18th December, thats a big stepping stone and we are so proud of us and Epic!

Looking back to ten years ago it makes sense that folk were regularly suprised by Clives baby face being the owner, although it never felt unnatural! Seems amazing that ten years went so quickly.

Thanks to those of you have come along this journey with us, I know there are customers on this page- customers we have seen this year even that have been with us the whole time, some even before Clive went Ltd!

We appreciate you all, thanks for your faith and kind words over the years, you are the reason we are still doing this 🌲🌳🌲🌳♥️♥️

Spot Tom our lead climber 😊.

Beautiful mature Larch Tom and James were getting to work on today and yesterday. Not often you see beasts of this size still healthy and reasonably unmolested in a garden ❤️

Lovely and local in Auchindachy too 😁

We are lucky enough to have customers sending us photos of Copper Beech trees we reduced 3 months ago in Winter pruning season so we can see them in full leaf, and saying they are beautiful, I agree.

If you walked past these would you even think they had been worked on so recently? That is the mark of good pruning, it should be subtle, tree-friendly and retain the shape and aesthetic of the tree and area.

Always so lovely to have customers appreciate what we do, thankyou so much Evelyn 🥰🥰

Team was in a narrow access spot in Aberdeen city today for a repeat customer, just pruning some building clearance in from this mature tree line as they were right up against this building.

Not the prettiest or most sensitive works, especially as they had unfortunately had some
heavy pruning by someone previously that creates issues we can’t fix, but fully necessary sometimes when they are so close to prevent building and roof damage, and get a little sunshine into the residents windows and yard.

Now is the time everyone starts looking around their gardens and planning (ourselves included)!

We have a wee resource for those who don't spend the vast majority of their time, talking about, reading about and looking at trees. Yes, we definitely have an advantage when it comes to working on our own trees!

We made a quick pruning guide to help, it is based on the latest industry standard guidance and has a list of common treee species, along with when to prune them, and how much they tolerate said pruning.

Let us know if its any use? We try to do these things as I know a lot of the folk following try to do right by their trees... but we get a tad busy and things drop off the to do list😅😂🌲🌳

We have heard folk saying that you can’t do any cypress works at all this time of year. Not true!

What we do have to do is be very aware of the risk of nesting birds and check thoroughly where work proceeds to ensure we don’t disrupt any nests.

Below is some leylandii crown raising we did in Aberdeen yesterday, necessary to facilitate some building works and no baby birds harmed in the process.

Nesting season runs all the way through Spring and Summer, we don’t stop all our tree work for those times. What we do instead, is assess risk and advise accordingly.

Some works will be delayed, some can proceed, only way to know which works are which is take a look. Usually trees easily visually inspected as clear and minor works like pruning or trimming will be absolutely fine, worst case where we proceed thinking a tree was clear and find one, we do as much of the work as possible and return to finish once the nesting is finished 😊🤘👌
