The wrong paint can do more harm than good to an older building.

Many period properties were built using traditional materials that need to breathe. Modern emulsion can trap moisture inside the walls, sometimes leading to damp, peeling paint and costly repairs.

That’s why, on one of our current heritage projects, we’ve chosen to use lime paint. Made from natural ingredients and developed with historic buildings in mind, it allows walls to breathe while creating the beautifully soft finish that only lime paint can achieve.

Our samples arrived last week, and we’re looking forward to seeing the colours in the building itself. It’s an important part of the process because natural light can completely change how a colour looks.

For us, good design is about more than choosing a colour. It’s about making informed decisions that protect the building, solve problems before they arise, and give our clients confidence that their property will continue to stand the test of time.

There's still time to have your say on 's future.

Somerset Council has extended the deadline for comments on its new Local Plan until 9 August, giving everyone a little more time to get involved.

The Local Plan will help shape how Somerset develops over the next 20 years. It looks at things like new homes, jobs, roads, green spaces and community facilities, so the decisions made now could affect all of us in the years ahead.

You do not need to know anything about planning to take part. Somerset Council is simply asking residents, businesses and community groups for their views before the plan is developed further.

If there's something you think should be protected, improved or planned differently, now is the time to say so.

The consultation closes on 9 August. https://somersetcouncil.citizenspace.com/planning/local-plan-scoping-consultation-2026/

Could your land be considered for future development? Own a field, paddock, large garden or unused piece of land in Somerset?

Somerset Council has reopened its Call for Sites, giving landowners another opportunity to submit land for consideration as part of the new Somerset Local Plan.

It isn't a planning application, and it doesn't guarantee planning permission. However, it could be an important first step if you've ever wondered about your land's future.

Planning a new home or small development?

The Biodiversity Net Gain rules are changing from 6 August 2026, and for some projects that could mean less paperwork and lower costs.

But the new exemption won't apply to every site.

We've explained the changes in plain English, including:

✔ What Biodiversity Net Gain is
✔ Who the new rules affect
✔ What they mean for self-build projects
✔ When ecological surveys may still be needed

If you're planning a project, understanding the rules early could save time, money and unnecessary work.
