This one was a bit of a challenge, a 22m bed, less than a metre deep... They key to designing long beds is repetition. You have certain key plants, colours or shapes that you repeat, which gives the planting a rhythm which is relaxing to the eye, and doesn't make it seem so long! In this case we have used Rose, Hydrangea, H**e, and grasses like Anemanthele and Hakonechloa which looks lovely and floppy against a path.
It's tempting with a lot of space to cram in as many different plants as possible, but for a designed look, less is definitely more.

One of my fave evergreen climbers (but one I can never spell properly) ... Holboellia latifolia, "sausage vine". Loves our well drained soil here in Norfolk and not too fussy about where it grows.

Thrilled with how this client's garden is coming together... Wildlife and privacy from the neighbours were important to them, as well as space for entertaining and accommodating a new 10m granny annexe!! Out of several concepts, the client opted for this scheme incorporating wildflower lawn, pond, pleached beech hedge and low maintenance planting scheme with some zingy colour combinations!!! Hosta and lady's mantle (Alchemilla mollis) are such a classic combo, and a great example of how contrasting leaf shape - but keeping the same colour leaf - can create interest. It's a very subtle effect!!
