Our second design proposal for the competition to transform the Grade II listed former banking hall at 20 Bank Plain into a creative learning environment for Norwich University of the Arts takes a contrasting approach, breaking down the scale of the historic hall into pockets of space for exhibitions, study and learning. The design introduces a ‘ribbon’ walkway weaving through the space, with bookshelves forming a permeable spine below, creating thresholds between public and more private areas. The inhabited walkway connects the upper level with shelving creating enclosed spaces for group and individual working.

Progress continues on Phase 2 of our Grade II listed Norfolk refurbishment.

The coach house is being carefully restored and reconnected to the main house with a contemporary glazed link, framing views of the garden beyond. This light-filled space will form the new kitchen and dining area, bringing the two buildings together as a cohesive and connected home.

Thank you to and .co.uk for hosting us at their campus in Melle, Germany last week.

Sam, Lewis and Tom enjoyed an in depth look at the Solarlux history, explored their full range of sliding and bifold door systems, observed the assembly process firsthand, and learnt about the low carbon and environmental features of the factory.

Ash Farmhouse Conservatory is a contemporary addition to the Grade II listed farmhouse, replacing a dilapidated timber structure of little architectural value. Its expressed timber exoskeleton and high-performance glazing reference ‘temporary’ garden buildings, while the structure provides visual rhythm, natural shading, and reduced overheating through double glazing and an anti-glare coating.

Designing a specialist care home starts with understanding.

In our latest workshop, we worked with our client to refine the spatial brief, define the purpose of each room, and determine the right balance between connected and private spaces.

Exciting progress on our barn conversion!

Sam visited our Dutch Barn project in Essex last week and as you can see the scaffolding is down, the new cladding is in place, and internal work is well underway.

We're breathing new life into this once redundant barn and silo, blending its agricultural character with contemporary design.

We look forward to sharing more with you soon!

Ash Farmhouse: A Sensitive Transformation for Modern Family Living

Our design reimagines this Grade II listed farmhouse by reconnecting the isolated spaces within the house to create a warm, open and functional home.

On the ground floor, we removed unnecessary partitions to create flexible living, kitchen and dining spaces that are now flooded with natural light. Modern doors and glazing were replaced with traditionally styled timber units, transforming the home’s external appearance and its connection with the garden.

In the oldest part of the house, changes were minimal and precise. A new door opens the original range onto the garden making the area more usable and connected.

The most striking intervention is the new conservatory, which replaces a dilapidated timber structure. With its expressed timber exoskeleton and high-performance glazing referencing ‘temporary’ garden buildings it offers a bold and contemporary addition. Double glazing and an anti-glare coating improve comfort and reduce summer overheating.

Thermal performance across the home has been significantly improved. Secondary glazing was sensitively introduced to the 17th century rooms, and windows and doors in the 19th century extension were replaced. All with respect to the building’s listed status.

Rooted in the principles of conservation, reuse, and repair, Feeringbury Barn is the result of a thoughtful collaboration between architect and client.

Together, we set out to preserve as much of the barn’s original fabric as possible, transforming it into a unique family home and artist’s studio.

Key Features include:

- A striking new roof, concealed beneath expanded steel mesh. Large polycarbonate rooflights usher in daylight satisfying both the conservation officer’s requirements for no visible rooflights and the client’s wish for a light filled space.

- Two internal concrete silos, carefully reassembled and relocated, screen the bedrooms from the main spaces and contain bathrooms and an oak staircase.

- External corrugated steel silos have been cleverly adapted to provide guest accommodation.

- Colourful, textured featherboard offcuts were repurposed to create kitchen cupboard doors.

We’re proud that Feeringbury Barn has been shortlisted in the Retrofit Revisited category at the Architects Journal Retrofit and Reuse Awards 2025. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 10th September.

We’re transforming a redundant commercial building in the heart of King’s Lynn into a landmark new library! 📚

Once home to a retail unit, offices, car park and a nightclub, the four-storey structure has stood empty for years. We have retained and carefully carved the existing concrete frame to both minimise waste and give back to the streetscape. A large central atrium has been punctured through the centre, offering a generous circulation space and flooding the interior with natural light.

The building’s revised form is both simple and striking. A stone colonnade evokes the character of local civic buildings, while an angular roofscape reflects the varied pitched roofs of the historic port town. The ground floor has been opened up to create a transparent, active frontage that invites people into a lively, expansive interior.

Targeting a BREEAM excellent rating, the design features a photovoltaic array on the roof to support Norfolk County Council’s ambition for a zero-carbon estate.

Crucially, the project aims to revitalise this important location within the town centre by creating a welcoming public building that encourages and supports community access to the library and all the services it offers.
