Something different. 😮

The ‘re-wilding’ movement has grown extremely popular the last few years, with more and more people wanting to step away from the traditional ’Striped Lawn’.

A particularly creative regular client for Green Axe put all of her trust in us. And simply said -
“The grass needs mowing, but I still want it to be wild”

The result was selective walkways cut through the Grass, so she could access all pertinent areas of her garden whilst leaving wild flower meadows behind to flourish.

From the base of the garden, the shape left behind looks somewhat like a set of lungs… breathing new life into this incredible rural space. ✅

Do you like a traditionally trimmed and striped lawn, or have you taken an interest in the re-wilding movement?

Beauty! 🌱
It looks as though Spring is trying to make its appearance!

In this area of work, we often end up neglecting our own rural spaces through lack of sufficient time. 👎🏻🙃

But last night - no admin, no high priority tasks just a free, 1 hour slot before doing dad duties, to enjoy a slow double pass on my own lawn, with the sun setting behind me. 🌅

The more the years fly by the more the ‘Simple things’
(Which I once thought were weird) become the new vice…😌👌

W**d over and tidy up for a regular Green Axe customers vegetable patch which had become a little sad and heavily infested with Dandelion, thistle and field grass.

Who else is growing this year? 😁

Billy Thorne Lewin 💙

A huge Thank you for the kindness, gifts and patience that you’ve expressed to Chloe and I over these last few weeks whilst we celebrated the arrival of Billy and started the adjustment phase to our incredible new addition.

It goes without saying we are both obsessed with him!

We have decided his face will remain hidden from the eyes of social media, however Billy demanded he got to showcase his first chainsaw and let you all know he is ready to pull his weight ✊🏻🤣👌

I am now returning to work and getting around to everyone in booking priority order.

See you soon!

Any other landscapers and gardeners rolling with this bit of kit? Highly recommend for the one man bands out there! ✊🏻

A simple fire pit bench up-cycled from algae ridden railway sleepers that were unwanted and headed for disposal.

Lots of requests for small bespoke builds over the winter period has led to some exciting news coming soon to Green Axe Rural Services mid year. 🔨 🪓 🪛

Keep a look out 👀…But for now, It’s time for a cuppa by the fire whilst we eagerly await spring.

Steve & Lynn The New Inn at Roborough are committed to the ever improvement of our lovely little pub 🏡 🍺

Green Axe has been asked for recurring winter tidy & maintenance visits and so the tidying has commenced! 💪

First visit - saw the removal of the w**d build up in the flower rockery including broken down w**d membrane. 🌱

Second visit - saw the clearance of overgrowth by the road side skirting and ivy removal from the remainder of the rockery areas. 🌱

A solid improvement so far, until next time 👌

A winter prune of this large apple tree, now most apple trees are traditionally pruned into a ‘goblet’ shape, leaving low hanging branches for easier fruit collection.

This particular tree has been left intentionally to grow tall and takes a more natural ‘tree’ shape, which the customer prefers over fruit collection. Therefore, my main effort was to remove the following:

- Congestion growth in the middle to allow the fruit tree to breathe and really let all the sunlight into the centre of the tree

- Broken branches as pointed out in one of the photos.

- Crossing branches which can rub and create wounds susceptible to disease

- Water shoot stems

Finally the top was only lightly pruned, to minimise promoting too much more upward growth.

Final photos show the before and after.

Road side edge clearance, Quick job done ✅

Even if holding up the morning rush hour traffic doesn’t make me the most adored man on the planet 😅.

🍂 November - it’s Goodbye for Grass cutting… or is it?
The Grass is starting to slow in it’s growth overall, but not everywhere…

• Environmental Factors such as Soil quality, microclimates and the cardinal direction of your property (in relation to weather fronts and the sunlight) all have a part to play in when your grass slows/stops it’s fast growth. 🌱

Be sure to cut on a slightly higher setting in Autumn!
Because longer grass:
- Allows for better capture of weak sunlight.
- Protects the crown and roots from the cold or early morning frosts 🧊
