Spatial Computing (specifically 3D Scanning and Photogrammetry)– Why It matters to us...
Photogrammetry (a variant of 3D scanning) has evolved dramatically since the days of Aimé Laussedat and Albrecht Meydenbauer — from manual, triangulation-based geometry estimation to powerful tools like Agisoft Metashape that effortlessly generate accurate 3D models from simple 2D photos.
As our work expands globally, physical oversight of every project becomes harder. Traditional site documentation methods are time-consuming, skill-dependent, and often inaccurate. That’s where real-time and asynchronous 3D scanning come in — enabling remote, precise, and scalable documentation.
✨ Why this is game-changing for us:
Accessible: Anyone with a decent phone camera can capture 3D data.
Open-source friendly: Multiple free tools now support 3D model generation.
Scalable: From insects to entire construction sites — the tech adapts beautifully.
Accurate: With good lighting and camera settings, precision is remarkable.
We recently applied this to a remote project in Kerala and Pondicherry, commissioning drone captures of a 1500 sqm site. With just 52 high-res images, we generated a detailed 3D model in under half a day, visualizing terrain, gradients, and site conditions.
Next steps: Site analysis, layout planning, and massing options.
Spatial computing isn’t just a tool — it’s transforming how we collaborate, document, and build. 🌍
