I made my own mini garden and now it’s your turn.🌿
You don’t need a (large) garden to create a beautiful floral display. This mini garden is perfect for a balcony, by your front door or any outdoor space. And the best part is, you don’t need very green fingers to make one yourself.
I chose a mix of bulbs, tubers and rhizomes to create a colourful layered display with different heights, textures and flowers throughout the summer.
How to create your own mini garden:
1. Add a layer of clay pebbles to the bottom of your pots for good drainage. You could also use broken pieces of pottery for this.
2. Fill your containers with light, breathable potting soil.
3. Plant your bulbs, tubers and rhizomes:
• Lilies: plant at three times the depth of the bulb
• Cannas: plant with the growing eyes facing upwards
• Incarvilleas: also plant with the eyes facing upwards, so possibly horizontally
• Cyclamen: place the rougher side upwards, with the (tiny) roots underneath
• Helenium: keep the new shoots just above the soil surface
4. Cover everything with compost and gently firm the soil down.
5. Give everything a good watering.
