We’ve trialled a Stingray Starfire hydrofoil on our D4000 today in preparation of mounting the engine on the 4x2 Dive Cat.
This was the perfect test bed as we know the performance of this boat well. We noticed around 1/2 to 1 knot less top speed (now 30knots), better hole shot and lower planing speeds, and a lot less cavitation in turns. We can do a near full lock full speed turn with no cavitation.
We trialled this foil due to the ‘No Drill Installation’. Upon trying to install this without drilling, we noticed how ineffective this mounting solution is and definitely do not recommend it. We ended up drilling and bolting this on with two bolts in the cav plate.
It’s been a very busy month in the design office since the boatshow, so unfortunately the 4x2 dive cat has not been fitted out for sea trials yet! Stay tuned, we hope to get in and mount the steering and controls in the next month or so and get it on the water!
