There’s something special about a well executed cloud prune, and this Taxus cuspidata at the Rydges Hotel in Queenstown is a perfect example. Shaped by our own Ryland Harrison, it brings a calm, sculptural presence to the entrance, adding structure and a touch of artistry to the space.
A beautiful reminder of how thoughtful pruning can turn a tree into living architecture.

The Kings Birthday gave gardeners a quiet Winter moment to reflect on the landscapes that brought calm and beauty. We marked it by highlighting trees with heritage and depth. Oaks offered instant presence, Southern Rātā added ceremonial colour and Tōtara hedges delivered privacy and a refined, estate like finish.
It reminded us that great gardens were built on care, patience and choices that brought lasting joy.

🍁 When trees spark creativity
Every now and then we hear a story that reminds us why we do what we do. Barney was recently contacted by artist DC SciArt , who had seen one of our Central Otago Autumn photos and felt inspired to paint it.
Her pastel and oil artwork captures the glow and depth of the season beautifully. From growing the tree, to capturing the moment, to seeing it reimagined through an artist’s eye, it’s a full circle of beauty we’re proud to be part of.
Nature’s colour brought indoors. 🎨

There’s something special about Bendemeer at this time of year. The hills settle into their Autumn colours, the light turns soft and golden, and the landscape feels like it’s taking a long, contented breath.
