Winter Wanders
The trees have lifted their skirts, bared their branches and shivered through June’s first southerly. The pool has pulled up a blanket of brown leaves and the skeletons of hydrangea blooms rattle when they collide. Winter has next to no humour and displays faint talent for colour, but the green fingered still find great enjoyment and reward in a season that reveals the garden’s ribs, its spine, its structure. Visitors still arrive, eager to examine architectural lines, plant placement, garden ‘rooms’, the play of light, the frames of shadow. You’re very welcome to join them. Bring your curiosity to Stablehouse or the Red Sheds Garden, both on Morris Road, both open by appointment. Simply give Sarah a call (021511223) and together you can make a time to take a winter wander through one or both gardens, each judged to be of national significance by the NZ Gardens Trust.
And don’t forget, no never forget…Stablehouse Nursery is open every Thursday and right now is the perfect time to dig a hole and fill it with Spring’s promise of life, blossom, fruit and flower. Stablehouse Nursery, first driveway on the left after turning onto Morris Road, Te Ore Ore, Masterton. Open Thursdays 10-3ish. Have a wonderful winters day.
