Lucerne baleage now ready!

If you've got a goat or two, a cow or three, sheep, horses, buffalo, zebras...then they're in luck because we have top shelf feed for them, Lucerne mini-bales just cut & stacked and now ready and waiting at Stablehouse Nursery just five minutes outside Masterton. Lucerne is a high fibre feed that contains more protein, digestible energy and calcium than grass hay. Take one or take 20 just don't take too long as supply of Lucerne in the Wairarapa is sparse. $35 per bale. Ring/txt Sarah at Stablehouse 021511223.

Spooky...

Can’t say we’re the town's greatest cheerleaders when it comes to the great corkscrew in the sky above Masterton’s roundabout, but this morning under a damp duvet of fog, it had an almost ethereal feel, looking rather like a giant unworldly probe sent from the Planet Kronk to take a core sample of the Wairarapa to see if it was worth beaming up and nicking. And of course it is, so don't say you haven't been warned.

The Glory of Autumn

It’s all very Van Gogh. Great slabs of yellow, dabs of ochre, eruptions of red, it’s easily our favourite season, when the garden slips on its most vivid and florid wardrobe before bravely dropping it to the ground and waiting completely naked for winter’s chilly embrace.
It’s a wonderful time to take a wander through Stablehouse Garden and you’re very welcome to do that…on your own, with a friend, with many friends, with a club or a tour group, just give Sarah a bell on 021511223 and she’ll make a time and day to suit.
Stablehouse Garden. A New Zealand Gardens Trust Garden of National Significance. 39 Morris Road, Te Ore Ore, just minutes outside Masterton. Entry $20 each.

The Angels have landed.

Angel Wings Senecio. Let those without sin cast the first bid. Actually, no, forget that, no point in appealing to such a small group, so anyone, yes anyone interested in these heavenly perennials take flight to the nursery on Thursdays or give Sarah a bell if you’d like to pop in another time.
A native of Argentina, they produce masses of soft ghostly leaves that look like…well, angel’s wings. Anyone who’s had a near death experience can vouch for that and no doubt many of you have if you’ve filled your car up with petrol lately. It’s a rather uncommon specimen so any opportunity to pounce on them is usual taken with great lashings of enthusiasm so don’t hang about. They’re $20 each.
As mentioned the nursery is open every Thursday, Sarah will be about dispensing much gardenny chat and advice. It’s planting time, the soil is soft making for easy digging and the available range of trees, shrubs, buxus, hydrangeas, fruit trees, grasses, citrus, ivy, climbers…makes for a wonderful wander.

We do love visitors…

The driveway was wearing a small fog coat around its shoulders and the garden was just beginning to put on its autumn jewellery when we welcomed the Martinborough Garden Group on Sunday. A great crowd on a great day, glorious blue skies, ne’er a puff of wind and the sun on its triumphant return tour.
Thanks for coming, the husband is convinced its his pikelets are the reason for the crowds but we suspect the garden played its part too.
