Thank you, The Manila Times for inviting Arch. Felino “Jun” Palafox, Jr. to be part of the distinguished panel of judges for The Manila Times Model Cities & Municipalities 2026.

Held yesterday at The Manila Hotel, the deliberation brought together the panel to evaluate the achievements and initiatives of 40 cities and 25 municipalities across 15 categories: recognizing local governments that demonstrate excellence, innovation, sustainability, and a strong commitment to improving the lives of their communities.

Initiatives such as this matter for PALAFOX since the quality of our cities and municipalities ultimately shapes the quality of life of our people. Recognizing and sharing exemplary local practices helps inspire other communities to raise the standard of governance, planning, and development.

We are honored to contribute to this meaningful initiative and to celebrate the LGUs working toward more sustainable, resilient, inclusive, and future-ready communities.

The awardees will be recognized on September 24, 2026, at The Manila Hotel.

The Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) could reshape how the Philippines grows in the coming decades.

In his latest Manila Times column, Arch. Felino “Jun” Palafox Jr. looks at the Luzon Economic Corridor and its potential to connect Subic, Clark, Metro Manila, Batangas, and the communities in between—creating new opportunities for investment, jobs, connectivity, and regional development.

But how do we ensure this growth translates into end-to-end prosperity for generations to come?

Read Arch. Palafox’s latest article in The Manila Times and explore the planning behind one of the Philippines’ most important development opportunities:

ALL eyes are now on the Philippines this week as over 600 investors have arrived to scout opportunities at the Luzon Economic Corridor Investment Forum. The establishment of the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) builds on decades of existing infrastructure improvements made throughout the island of Luzo...

As extreme weather, severe flooding, and crippling traffic continue to impact Metro Manila, it becomes clear that single-purpose infrastructure is no longer enough. We need multi-functional, climate-resilient solutions designed for long-term survival.

In 1989, Arch. Felino "Jun" Palafox Jr. proposed a bold vision to complete the C-10 regional loop: a tunnel interconnecting Bataan and Cavite.

Designed as a bridge and multi-tier underwater megastructure, this concept serves a dual purpose:

1. Transport & Connectivity: Inspired by global best practices, it links Central Luzon and Calabarzon directly—accommodating trains, buses, cars, active mobility, and utilities while bypassing the heavily congested roads of Metro Manila.

2. Flood Management & Coastal Protection: Similar to Malaysia’s SMART Tunnel, the infrastructure doubles as a massive flood control spillway during severe typhoons, while acting as a natural wave breaker against storm surges.

By decentralizing Metro Manila and investing in dual-purpose infrastructure, we can build a connected, climate-resilient Philippines that protects both lives and livelihoods.

The best time to act was 37 years ago; the second best time is today.

Building better places, together.

Our team, led by Architect Felino “Jun” Palafox Jr., was honored to welcome the Municipal Government of Badian, Cebu, to our PALAFOX Makati office for the contract signing of the Badian Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Zoning Ordinance (CLUPZO) Project last Tuesday (August 25, 2026).

We sincerely thank the Hon. Mayor Jerome Librando and the Municipal Government of Badian for their trust in PALAFOX. We look forward to working closely with the Municipality in shaping a more sustainable, resilient, and well-planned future for Badian.

What if we stopped treating open spaces as dead space, and instead as the lungs of our cities?

In his latest Manila Times article, Arch. Felino “Jun” Palafox Jr. looks at Makati’s shared streets and lessons from Singapore, Bangkok, and Boston to explore how better-planned open spaces can create healthier, cooler, more connected, and more livable communities.

For PALAFOX, good planning means putting people, planet, and long-term value at the center of development.

Thank you to Bilyonaryo for highlighting this.

We don't need to reinvent the wheel; instead, we can learn from the best practices of neighboring countries in flood control and rainwater management, which we can then localize and further improve.

Architect and urban planner Jun Palafox on Wednesday warned that the Philippines’ drainage and flood control systems were about 75 percent undersized as extreme weather events became more frequent and intense.

Important conversations to spark meaningful change.

Yesterday, Arch. Felino “Jun” Palafox Jr. joined Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles and Spokesperson Relly Fajardo on Bilyonaryo’s The Spokes for a timely conversation on flooding, sustainable development, water management, heritage, and the long-term future of our cities.

Our sincere thanks to Bilyonaryo, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles, and Ms. Relly Fajardo for having us and for creating a platform where important national issues can be discussed openly and thoughtfully.

At PALAFOX, we believe the ideas we discuss today can help shape the Philippines we build tomorrow.
