Some people grow pumpkins. Some people grow giants.

Hsu Growing Supply is proud to support Laird, a Wisconsin giant pumpkin grower, as he works toward growing record sized pumpkins, tomatoes, and other fruits and vegetables.

Giant pumpkin growing takes serious skill, patience, and a whole lot of soil. As the vines grow, soil is tucked along the vine to help new roots develop and support the massive amount of water and nutrients these plants need.

We’re excited to follow along this season and see HSU Growing Supply products play a part in something pretty giant.

Very excited to partner with Hsu Growing Supply on this year grow! Their seed starting mix helped me grow some of the best starting plants I have ever grown. I am also using their professional potting mix to bury all my vines this season. It a perfect mix of compost, peat and a light fertilizer to help push the plants!!

May 11th - first patch update of the year!

Another frosty night coming......hoop houses are all tucked in with 2 heater bulbs, a fan, led lights and their blankets on top to help keep the heat in. Can't wait for some warmer weather!!

Six days old and these plants are growing fast!! The 1940 is in the lead with these huge cotyledon leaves. A guality seed starting mix with a few high quality amendments, makes a huge difference in how healthy and quickly these plants grow.

Patch is amended, cover crop is coming in, hoop houses are up, soil cables are heating, plants are started and we will be outside growing this week!! The 2026 season had begun!!!
