Reduce Your Lawn Day is a national holiday event that inspires folks to transform an underutilized yard space into an ecosystem. I’ve been wanting to safely meadowscape my septic hill for years and now I’ve signed the pledge to do so as part of Reduce Your Lawn Day.

No matter the size of the project, you can have a huge impact on our environment. Visit the website to learn more.

Fight or flight? More like fight, flight or Serenade.

I understand it’s nonvenomous, but as an ex-Floridian my brain just goes into IT COULD BE BAD SNAKE mode. Ah the joys of gardening.

What other botanical techniques do you use when visiting a botanic garden?

I think it’s very important to have proper rose sniffing form when attending a botanic garden to ensure peak enjoyment of active blooms.

I’m growing so many types of pumpkins this year! From huge ones like Big Max to tiny Casperita pumpkins, I just planted out my sprouts into their new home in the garden. I’m so excited to grow a pumpkin patch!

I LOVE visiting botanic gardens wherever I travel and Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid was no exception.

With ~20 acres dating back to the 1700s, this formal style botanic garden was gorgeous to walk around. What stood out as different from other botanic gardens I’ve been to was the variety and age of the trees outside of the greenhouses. There was just so much to look at.

What botanic garden is on your travel bucket list?

I visited the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for the first time as an American home gardener and now I understand why gardeners dream of coming here.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show isn’t just flowers. It’s garden design, community gardening, conservation, education, accessibility, and truly treating horticulture like art.

As someone who gardens at home in the US in Massachusetts, I kept thinking about how badly I wish we had more gardening events like this back home. I’ve been to several, but the scale of RHS Chelsea is astronomical.

One of the most inspiring parts was learning more about the Royal Horticultural Society’s charitable work beyond Chelsea itself through supporting school gardens, biodiversity, and community growing spaces across the UK.

I came for garden inspiration and left wanting to redesign my entire yard (I need a greenhouse, more roses, and a million alliums stat).

blew my mind. It was absolutely magical. I couldn’t get over just how massive this botanic garden is compared to the other ones I’ve visited. Not only that, there was just so much to learn about every plant in their collection and the ways they’re working to preserve and regrow endangered plant species.

I would go back there in a heartbeat.
