Initial concept design for this Cartagena project, where light is not just seen, it is felt. For this historic coastal loft, our mission was to honor that heavy, golden Caribbean atmosphere while entirely reimagining the limits of a compact footprint.
Faced with soaring ceiling heights, the homeowners envisioned a space that could gracefully expand to accommodate guests. Rather than slicing the volume with static drywall, we introduced a towering mezzanine enclosed by a floor-to-ceiling, operable timber screen.
Inspired by the traditional pivoting wooden windows, once popular in the Colombian coast, this breathing architectural facade acts as a fluid filter. Throughout the day, it choreographs an ever-changing dance of cross-ventilation, privacy, and dramatic, filtered shadows.
To preserve a sense of quiet, uncluttered luxury, every element of the floor plan had to work twice as hard. We anchored the living area with a custom, built-in sofa that seamlessly doubles as a daybed for extra guests. This spatial efficiency unlocked the footprint, allowing us to discretely integrate two bathrooms into the layout without sacrificing an ounce of airiness.
