When the art is the thing that pulls everything together.

Sometimes our clients bring their own amazing artwork to a project, sometimes we get to work with amazing artists to create something new and sometimes we source pieces online and in galleries. I’m not precious about art - it’s more important that you get something on the wall and even better if it’s meaningful or makes you smile. It doesn’t have to cost a lot. It just needs to be personal and loved.

But a wall without a bit of art is a sad wall. Nothing makes a home feel more cozy and complete than getting art on the wall.

It has been a whirlwind of photoshoot after photoshoot these last few weeks and we’re so excited to share new projects with you. We have some really great ones coming up. But as exciting and rewarding as they are, they’re also a massive amount of work, prep and coordination. Quite frankly Im exhausted. So I’m reposting Petra Design’s office here. And while it’s never actually this clean (think multiple projects strewn about on every horizontal surface), this is what we strive for.

Happy Fourth of July!! Turns out interiors with red AND white AND blue aren’t my thing. I mean why stop at three colors? Or why do primary colors when a deep gray blue or coral red is so much yummier?

It’s all true 🤦🏻‍♀️ Interior design is definitely one of those careers that doesn’t stop when you leave the office. But I love it! Plus I’ve got some great party tricks and who knows when you’ll need a tape measure!

We’re getting ready for some really fun photoshoots this summer so I will leave you with a few shots of this beautiful kitchen we finished earlier this year. The sunshine feels perfect for today which is going to be a hot one in NY 🌞🕶️

Also, I was obsessed with sunflowers in high school and then they were so uncool for many years. But I’m happy they’re back! How could a flower ever be out of style. It’s nature!

Did you know that you’re 3.5x more likely to sit on a sofa when it’s pretty? Just kidding, I totally made that up but it feels like it should be true. Regardless, these sofas are gorgeous aren’t they? And also really comfortable. I love the slipcover detail that feels a bit incognito. And of course that perfect blue color is 🤩

Let's be clear, it's your house and you can and should do what makes you happy. Want purple wallpaper? Install it because it makes you happy! Who cares what the haters think.

But there are a few design related hills that I will die on. And I will always push my clients on these too. That's because these things make your house feel like the absolute best extension of you. Isn't that what we're all pining for? A home that reflects us and the people in it? So go ahead and install what makes your heart sing, take these key pieces of advice too.

A few views of this lovely entry foyer. A bit of storage for the family chaos (when will my kids learn to not leave their shoes in the middle of the hall? 😫). A silk look wallpaper to add a bit of softness and a few beautiful accents so the room doesn’t feel too utilitarian. Also because who doesn’t love to put their keys down next to freshly cut flowers?

Also, we’re having a discussion in the office if this is an Entryway, Foyer or Entry Foyer. What do you call it?

It’s high time for less construction and some real progress shots of the hexagon house! We’re still working through the punch list but isn’t she gorgeous? Everything turned out better than we could have ever imagined. So enjoy some quick iPhone snaps of the almost done construction.
