At our Ausable River Residence, the arrival unfolds gradually.

For most of the approach, meadow and forest remain the primary focus. Only at a slight crest does the roofline begin to emerge, revealing the home a little at a time.

The sequence was designed to create a sense of discovery rather than immediacy, allowing the landscape to lead the experience.

A home shaped by the land.

Rather than occupying the center of the meadow, the house was carefully positioned between forest and open field, preserving the landscape while capturing views of the Adirondack Peaks.

Its roofline rises and bends in response to the terrain, allowing the house to settle naturally into its surroundings.

Sometimes the most successful architecture is not what stands apart, but what belongs.

A retreat designed for both comfort and calm.

In the primary suite, a cozy sitting area, wood-paneled fireplace, and spa-like bath create spaces for quiet reflection, framed by views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks. The fireplace surround, wrapped in wood paneling rather than stone, brings warmth while bridging the homeowners' appreciation for both modern and traditional design.

From the soaking tub to the light-filled shower room, the suite offers a serene place to begin and end each day.

We're proud to celebrate Emma Harnett's achievement of NCIDQ Certification, a significant professional milestone that reflects her dedication to design excellence and continued growth as an interior designer.

Emma is a designer in our workplace and hospitality studios with an architectural background from Middlebury College. So, it is especially notable that she is broadening her knowledge and pursuing a multidisciplinary career path.

Actually, a better word would be interdisciplinary. So much of our work occupies that exciting space between architecture and interiors. Emma is a major contributor to this work, whose technical skills and visual storytelling play an important role throughout the design process.

An NCIDQ certification is a testament to this unique position. It is recognized as the industry’s benchmark for interior design competency, demonstrating knowledge of building systems, codes, construction standards, project coordination, and the health, safety, and welfare principles that are essential to responsible design. A worthy achievement.

Congratulations Emma!

Congratulations to Emma Harnett on earning her NCIDQ certification.

Designed to fit its neighborhood. Positioned to embrace the lake.

The Wedge was designed around a simple sequence: arrive through a modest entrance, then step into a vaulted living space that unfolds toward Lake Champlain. What begins quietly ends with a panoramic view of water, sky, and sunset.

Summer living at its best.
