Some shady “brokers” are exploiting a loophole in Google’s system to flood Maps with fake local business listings. Made up company names, addresses where they don’t operate, and legit looking websites, all pretending to be local dumpster and portable toilet companies.

Just locally, I’ve found and reported over 50 of them.

I called a couple dozen of these listings this morning. Almost all of those calls led to Prime Dumpster or ASAP Marketplace. Different company names on Maps, same two brokers getting the calls.

You’re looking for a local company near you. Instead, you’re paying a middleman to hire a local hauler.

The starting price is only part of it. Based on the quotes I received and our actual rental history, the included weight and rental time fall well short of what our average customer uses. The extra charges can make the total substantially higher than renting directly. I’ll share those numbers separately.

I work with a few honest brokers who bring us business through their own connections. That’s different from pretending to be a local company at an address where you don’t operate.

Check if the company you paid matches the name on the equipment that shows up. If it doesn’t, it could be legit, but dig deeper because you may be getting screwed. Call the company that delivered and ask what they’d charge directly for the same rental and terms.
