💐🩵a jar of joy!

Stayed with my SIL AND BIL at The Brooks Homestead this past weekend and she let me pick my own flowers for a bouquet. Check out these stunning colors. I’m obsessed. Also, check out this 3 headed zinnia. Video in comments.

It was like watching a real life claw machine, and my traps are gonna be so swole

In all seriousness, I’m so grateful for more wood chips! About 1/3 of our property is zoned wetlands, including the chickens’ sleeping quarters. After a lot of trial and error, we’ve found wood chips to be the very best nitrogen absorber and they break down beautifully with all the moisture in the yard. I spent two solid hours pitching 12 wheelbarrow loads of composted wood chips out of the chicken coop and onto the fresh wood chips from a couple days ago… Now, I add fresh “bedding” in and around their coop in a thick layer, as well as near the sink station and other particularly soupy areas. Meanwhile, in the garden, the nitrogen from the coop clean out mixes with the fresh carbon from the wood chips and creates a rich soil, full of life, ready to feed whatever gets planted in a couple months. I love the cycle!

Which egg is your favorite? The speckled eggs will win me over every time! I particularly think today’s turkey egg (bottom right) is a beauty 🤩

You can message me to arrange porch pickup for eggs! With the heat of summer here, the girls will start to slow down, and then into fall they’ll slow even more as they molt. Abundance of springtime has passed. Now is the time to get to know your farmers directly! They remember regular customers 😉

And seriously, these are the highest quality eggs in the area! Free range, organic, corn free, soy free, seed oil free!
