Some words of wisdom from a designer who has been in the trenches for over 25 years

Please be honest about:
1)Your realistic comfort level of budget. Your builder and design team will guide you on this but it’s important to know your comfort level in combination with what we think the project will cost.

Know that:
2) Your builder/design team will base your project budget on past similar projects and what you tell us you want. If you know that you want the special details please let us know so we can price those accordingly.

However:
3) You only know what you know. It’s up to professional to guide our clients and do a little detective work to see what types of things our clients might want. Clients may not know about specialized details so it’s up to us to present them.

So:
4) Let us help you move your budget around. If you want certain high end items but know you cannot afford them all, let your designer guide you as to where to put your money.

Lastly:
5) If you do have the budget for all the things-be honest with your team what you value so there’s no wasting time sourcing items that don’t fit. One of the most helpful things that wonderful clients have said to me is “Amy I am willing to spend for the good stuff but I need to know why you feel it’s a good use of my budget.” And that right there is the start of a very successful project.

Please hire a team who you feel you can trust and had your best interest at heart. I know that can seem impossible these days but I assure you there are still professionals with integrity who will be good stewards of your money and will do their very best for you.

Deep Tek leathering isn’t for every slab or use. Because the texture is so pronounced, it stains easier and needs to be sealed more frequently.
However, because it has absolutely no sheen, it will conceal etching and fingerprints more so than a high polished stone. I would not specify this in a high use area, but I do think it’s kind of a cool look for a backsplash or a specialty focal wall.

🪨Firmest:
Foam Cushion which is often referred to as “Classic” or “Classic Foam.”
I never specify this because it doesn’t hold its shape long term and is not as comfortable as other options. It is offered in higher end furniture with a dense foam however foam in a lesser brand will break down more quickly will and be a misshapen mess. If you are dead set on foam- buy from a very reputable brand. To me it’s too firm and can give seat cushions a “value driven” look.

💎Middle:
Spring Down Cushion is my absolute favorite and the most specified of all seat cushions in higher end design. It is a Marshall unit of coils (often tied together 8 ways by the better brands-hence the term 8 way hand tied) wrapped in one direction (left to right) with channels of down. The result is a medium firm seat that softens over time. However it holds its shape, has great crown retention and is a workhorse-trust me this is your cushion.

🦠Down Alternative Spring:
If you have a down allergy and you want a cushion that has the spring construction with softness you can opt for a cushion that has an alternative in place of down. It will still have the benefits of a wrapped Marshall unit but will most likely have a poly mix in the channels that normally have down.

👑Softer:
Luxury Spring Down is softer than traditional Spring Down because it is wrapped left to right AND front to back with channels of down. It can be more expensive than traditional Spring Down and not everyone responds to the softer cushion decadent can tend to feel “too soft” to some.

🪶Soft and Smushy:
25/75 refers to 25 percent down and 75 percent feather. Basically you are sitting on a bed pillow. This is the cushion you see in English manor homes, on antique wing chairs and on old settees. It has zero crown or bounce back so it needs constant maintenance and fluffing. Most people do not want this look or the feeling of sinking to the deck of the frame. It can look like a mess to some people and absolute heaven to others. I love this for an old world vibe and only specify it for clients who understand the look and the performance.

A Scullery must have at least one appliance and a water source to be considered an actual Scullery. It’s a working kitchen usually behind the kitchen. A great place to prepare for entertaining or a baking kitchen! We love these functional rollout cabinets!
