A little lower level bar moment 🥃🌼

In one of our favorite corners of this West Town project, we transformed this lower-level nook into a cozy, inviting bar, where soapstone countertops and vintage finds bring warmth, depth, and old-world charm.

A lower level designed for both comfort and connection. 📚

At our latest West Town project, a rich walnut library wall adds warmth and character, creating a cozy retreat for curling up with a good book, enjoying conversation, and slowing down.

Paired with a warm, neutral palette, the space feels inviting yet refined—a beautiful balance of function and comfort, with thoughtful details that make you want to stay awhile.

A considered composition in the living room of this West Town home. ✨

Every piece was thoughtfully selected for its silhouette, sculptural quality, and presence. A quiet, neutral backdrop allows the art to shine while creating space for each element to have its own moment. The result is a room that unfolds naturally, drawing your eye from one thoughtful detail to the next.

A powder room with a point of view.

A distinctive mirror silhouette, warm neutral palette, and tailored pinstripe wallcovering create a balance of softness and structure. Paired with the bold veining of Arabescato marble, every detail brings depth and character to this West Town, Chicago space.

Pattern play, layered with intention. 🤍🔲

In the primary bathroom of our West Town project, custom marble flooring flows seamlessly from the main space into the shower, creating continuity while adding a sense of movement underfoot.

Handcrafted subway tile climbs all the way to the ceiling, bringing dimension to the walls, while warm wood tones soften the space. Modern black accents add contrast and definition, balancing the warmth with a crisp, contemporary edge.

A considered mix of pattern, material, and contrast creates a space that feels elevated, timeless, and distinctly its own.

A study in contrast. 🖤

Warm wood tones and natural textures meet rich black-framed windows and bold black-and-white artwork in this West Town dining room, creating a space that feels layered, sophisticated, and full of character.

The jewel of the room? A gorgeous teardrop chandelier that adds a sculptural focal point and a touch of unexpected elegance overhead.

Warmth, contrast, and a little drama—exactly the balance we love.

Warm, refined, and grounded in natural materials. 🤎

For our latest West Town project, we paired the warmth of custom-stained white oak with the soft, natural movement of Taj Mahal quartzite to create a kitchen that feels both elevated and inviting.

Carrying the quartzite from the countertops onto the backsplash creates a seamless, cohesive backdrop, while gold accents add a touch of warmth. Ribbed lighting introduces subtle texture and dimension, complementing the fresh, clean lines of the cabinetry.

Thoughtful details and natural materials come together to create a space designed for everyday living with a timeless point of view.

Design Chicago Recap!

I had the opportunity to speak on two panels this year, both touching on ideas that are central to how we approach design at LWID.

Our first conversation explored color and our approach to using color to create spaces with longevity. For us, color is never considered in isolation—it’s about color alongside pattern, scale, texture, and contrast. A room can be bold and full of color while still feeling incredibly livable.

We love creating spaces that reveal themselves differently as you experience them—a colorful pattern might read almost as a solid as you pass by, while up close, you begin to see the individual colors and details within it. That balance allows a home to feel interesting and distinctive without becoming visually exhausting or tied to a particular moment in time.

Our second panel asked, “Is Good Taste Killing Creativity?” Good taste matters, but great design also requires technical skill, curiosity, listening, and the instinct to know when to push beyond what you already know works. Throw in something that doesn’t quite belong. Break a rule. Push beyond the expected.

The bonus was getting to have this conversation alongside some of my favorite people. It felt a lot like the conversations we have all the time—just with a lot more people watching!

Grateful to have been part of both conversations, to spend a few days surrounded by such a talented Chicago design community, and last but not least, to see rooms by two of my design besties at the Mart Show House!

Color isn’t just a detail. It’s a feeling, a point of view, a way to shape how a space is experienced.

Tomorrow, we’re diving deeper into the power of color at THE MART exploring the psychology and science behind bold choices, and how expressive palettes can create spaces that feel deeply personal.

Swipe through for some color inspiration. Hope to see you there! 🎨
